Buhari, Dasuki And The Twist Of Fate 30 Years After By MM. Firdausi
Precisely 30 years ago during Sallah celebration on 27th August 1985, four brilliant young Majors in the Nigerian Army; Major Sambo Dasuki, Major Lawan Gwadabe, Major Abubakar Umar and Major Abdulmumuni Aminu arrested the Head of State Gen Muhammadu Buhari and placed him under house arrest for Gen Ibrahim Babaginda to take over power in a bloodless and palace coup.
In a new twist of fate an event which only God Almighty can explain, the leader of the coup plot, Col Sambo Dasuki (Rtd) the recently relieved National Security Adviser was placed under house arrest, his International Passport seized, placed under intense surveillance and investigation for his alleged misappropriation of funds meant to fight the Boko Haram Insurgency on Sallah day under a transmuted President Muhammadu Buhari (same man they ousted in a palace coup 30 years ago).
What a life and awesome God we serve who dispenses justice according to our deeds All the four officers are reputed to be one of the brightest, smartest and most brilliant young officers we have then and would have risen to the pinnacle of their career probably attaining the rank of Major General and above if they were patient and were not recruited to do the hatchet job that fateful day.
One of them from Katsina State, very brilliant and great football enthusiast (y’ all can figure who) actually regretted participating in that putsch when I met him in 2007, reliving his experience in the Army to me, he didn’t like the fact that his career like many of them were cut short in their prime, they all have been out of circulation and lost relevance, the only one whose fortune got resurrected again and gaining political relevance is Col Sambo Dasuki (Rtd) after a long hibernation when he was appointed National Security Adviser in June 2012.
Like they always say Karma (Law of Retributive Justice) is a bitch, hopefully we will all learn one or two lesson(s) from this twist of fate. No one can cut short and delay your destiny or prevent you from attaining your predestined goal in life.
Finally, President Muhammadu Buhari’s trajectory in life should be a prayer point for all. “Anyone who causes you pain in life, must surely come back to genuflect and seek for your forgiveness when your glory shows forth”, Amen. “We know what we are, but not what we may be”—-William Shakespeare (1564-1616)
