Buhari ‘Alive and Well’, Says Presidency
In the midst of swirling rumours of President Muhammadu Buhari’s death, Nigeria’s Presidency has said “he is alive and well”.
Reactions to the rumour came from the twitter handle of Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media and Publicity), Garba Shehu as well as the Senior Special Adviser to the President (Media and Publicity),Femi Adesina.
According to Shehu, “He is alive and well! President Buhari is not magical. He cannot be holidaying in the UK & be in Germany, dead or alive at the same time.”
But Shehu surprisingly did not stop at that as he unusually took a swipe at a former president, in his second tweet related to an earlier on.
Shehu said “He is unlike a past President who was at Ota, w/ Chief Obj & attending the Trump inauguration in D.C, being in two places at the same time!”
Though Shehu did not mention any name, it’s obvious he was referring to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The rumour mill had been agog with claims that Jonathan had been invited to attend the inauguration of US President Donald Trump. The rumour was so thick that Jonathan’s aide issue a statement debunking the claim of Friday.
It also became clear that Jonathan had had in fact visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Ota, contrary to the rumour of Trump’s invitation.
In yet another tweet on the rumour of Buhari’s death, Adesina prayed that the rumour mongers will repent.
Adesina tweeted: “Best wishes to all who wish PMB well. As for those who carry evil rumours, may they receive grace to repent.”
