Obasanjo, Amaechi, Other G-7 Governors In Closed Door Meeting In Abeokuta
The meeting called at the instance of the former president have in attendance Governors Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano, Babangida Aliyu of Niger, Sule Lamido of Jigawa, Murtala Nyako of Adamawa and Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State.
The aggrieved governors were led to Monday’s meeting by Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State who also drove the vehicle that conveyed his colleagues.
The meeting between Obasanjo and the governors is not unconnected with the crisis that has rocked the Peoples Democratic Party.
The governors were on Sunday prevented from holding their meeting in Abuja by the police who reportedly said they acted on orders from above.
The meeting is coming at a time when the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC), led by former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, Former Governor of Lagos state, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other leaders of the party are making overtures to the aggrieved PDP governors.
The leaders of the APC has already visited five of the G-7 governors namely, Aliyu Wamako of Sokoto, Sule Lamido of Jigawa, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano and Murtala Nyako of Adamawa in a bid to woo them into joining the APC.
The APC leaders move to woo the G-7 Governors is expected to continue this week with visit of Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State and Babangida Aliyu of Niger state.
