Yusuf Isiaka Onimisi, who was arrested for posting pictures of the SSS jail break has been released by the Nigerian government after spending 12 days in captivity.
Although details of his release remains sketchy as at the time of this report, Onimisi was reportedly released to his family at about 12 midnight following widespread condemnation and demand from Nigerians and the international both within and outside the country.
One of the social crusaders who have been working tirelessly to get the government to releases Onimisi, Ayo Sogunro tweeted via his handle: “I have received a phone call that the government released Ciaxon at midnight. We are working on a visual confirmation”
He added that” We have news from Ciaxon’s family that he’s been released. Someone is on the way to meet them to confirm visually.”
Yusuf Siyaka Onimisi has been missing since 30 March, when he tweeted photos of an alleged attempted jail break-in at the State Security Service in Abuja, Nigeria. Twenty-one detainees died during the incident. If he is in detention Yusuf is at risk of extra-judicial execution.
Meanwhile, activist has insisted on going ahead with the protest march being planned to hold at various venues across the country.
Some of them said even though he has been released, the march would still go ahead to protest the injustice meted to the young man.
