Former Anambra Gov Peter Obi Resigns as APGA BOT Chairman, Leader
Former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi has resigned as the Board of Trustees Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Mr Obi who also resigned as the leader of the party said he chose to remain as an ordinary floor member of AGPA.
His resignation which was devoid of any notice was announced on Friday.
While we are yet to confirm what prompted the former governor to resign the two positions he held in the party under which platform he contested and won the governorship seat of Anambra state, a source said it may not be unconnected to the recent defection of some members of the party in Anambra State, the only state where it currently hold decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Members of the party in the House of Representatives led by the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Environment, Hon. Uche Ekwunife; as well as members of the party in the Anambra State house of Assembly had last week decamped to the PDP.
But Mr. Obi in his reaction described the trend as worrisome, adding that the recent development in APGA called for reflection on the part of party faithful on the way forward for the party.
Obi who agreed that he needed to have intervened more aggressively to stop the defecting members, however said he did not actually know on what platform he would have done so, since, according to him, his position as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the leader of APGA are yet to be ratified.
