BREAKING: FEDERAL GOVERNMENT GROUNDS DANA AIRLINE
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, the regulatory body for Nigeria’s aviation industry has suspended the operating license of Dana Airline Limited till further notice.
Confirming the suspension of the license, spokesman of the agency, Mr Sam Adurogboye said the suspension order was issued Monday night and commenced immediately. He said NCAA suspended the airline’s license to enable the agency “carry out its investigations.”
He said that the airline has already complied with the directive as it has suspended all its flight operation.
Earlier today, the Nigerian Senate asked the Federal Government to withdraw DANA airline’s license and also suspend the boss of NCAA, Harold Demuren until investigations are completed into Sunday’s deadly crash which killed 153 passengers and crew and unknown number of people on ground.
A Dana airline passenger plane carrying 153 people crashed in Lagos on Sunday killing all the 153 passengers and crew members on board. A yet to be confirmed number of residents living around the vicinity of the crash were also killed
The Senate at its plenary Tuesday morning said beside the suspension of Dana’s licence and the stepping aside of the Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Harold Demerun, aviation authorities in the country should also conduct an audit of the airlines in the country with a view to determining their airworthiness.
