Brahimi Defeats Enyeama, Others to Win BBC African Footballer of the Year
FC Porto winger, Yacine Brahimi was on Monday evening announced as the winner of the 2014 BBC African Footballer of the Year Award.
Brahimi defeated Nigeria’s Vincent Enyeama and four others who were shortlisted as finalists for the coveted prize.
Others shortlisted for the award include Ivory Coast’s Gervinho, Gabon’s Pierre Emerre Aubameyang, and CAF Player Of The Year Favourite Yaya Toure.
As a build up to the announcement of the finalist, the trio of Gervinho, Aubameyang, and Yay Toure who all made the November 10 were edged out leaving only Nigeria’s Enyeama and Algeria’s Brahimi to battle it out.
When the winner was finally announced, it Brahimi.
Brahimi, speaking to BBC after being crowned, said “I dedicate the award to my family, all the African countries and especially my country, Algeria. This trophy is going to give me some strength, the desire to learn and also some inspiration for some great performances.
“The African Cup of Nations will be a huge inspiration for me and I hope it can drive me and Algeria on to great things at the tournament in the New Year,” The former Granada player said.
