Borno Elder Statesman, Shettima Ali Monguno Released
He was released by his abductors on Monday afternoon after spending 72 hours in captivity.
Speaking after his release, the nonagenarian urged hundreds of sympathisers who came to welcome him not to shed tears saying “They did not kill me, so don’t cry.”
The Borno Governor, Kashim Shettima, appealed to the crowd that thronged the victim’s house in Maiduguri to let him have at least 24 hours to rest and not disturb him.
Sources said prior to his release, the family of the former minister with the active participation of Borno state government paid the sum of N50million to secure his release. This has however not been confirmed by any of the concerned persons.
