The bomb explosive in Kaduna metropolis which occurred along Ali Akilu road, Tuesday afternoon have left at least four motor cycle operators and three persons suspected to be terrorists on a suicide mission in the area dead.
The incident reportedly occurred after the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) held by the three suspected terrorist detonated while reportedly on a suicide mission to attack renowned Islamic Scholar and medical doctor, Sheik Ahmed Gumi between Abakpa Total and Shagalinku along the road
A witness who prefer not to be named said “though the explosion may have been accidental, the Sheikh is clearly the target because the incident occurred just when he was about to leave for the daily Tafsir he delivers at Sultan Bello Mosque.”
The cleric is one of the few prominent Islamic clerics, based in Northern Nigeria, who publicly condemn the activities of the sect.
Although seven persons were said to have died in the blast, spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, Abubakar Balteh, while confirming the incident, said only two bodies, believed to be those of the terrorist, were found at the scene of the blast.
Mr. Baltzh said, “Two persons on a motorcycle were killed from an IED (improvised explosive device) that accidentally exploded on transit.”
Speaking further, Mr. Balteh said “the incident occurred around 3:45pm around Modibo Adama Junction leading to the residence of Sheikh Dr Ahmed Gumi near NNPC Mega station along Ali Akilu way.”
“However, no other casualty is reported and we have already commenced investigation into the explosion,” he said.
The Kaduna blast occurred hours after the Voice of America, VOA reported that a man simply identified as Abu Mohammed, claiming to be the deputy leader of Boko Haram confirmed to its reporter in Makkah that the sect is currently engaged in a negotiation with the FG.
