Boko Haram, soldiers in fierce battle at Buni Yadi
Nigerian troops and members of the Boko Haram insurgents group yesterday engaged each other in a fierce battle at Buni Yadi in Gujba local government area of Yobe state.
Buni Yadi is one of the town seized by the Boko Haram insurgents after an encounter with the Nigerian troops and has been in their control since over two months ago when they captured the town.
The insurgents were said to have arrived Buni Yadi with over thirty Hilux Vans loaded with fighters and different kinds of weapons, apparently to advance towards the state capital, but were restrained by the restriction of movement imposed by the security operatives to ensure hitch free Sallah celebration in the state, a source said.
“However, this morning, we were informed of the engagement of the insurgents by the military in a fierce battle to reclaim the area,” the source added.
Details remain sketchy as to what transpired after the bloody battle between the troops and the insurgents.
