Boko Haram Overwhelmed Nigerian Troops Trying To Reclaim Mubi, Kill Many Soldiers, Capture Another Town
A move by the Nigerian army to reclaim Mubi town from the control of the Boko haram insurgents group backfired on Sunday, leading to the death of an army colonel and several other Nigerian soldiers.
According to reports, the army has assembled several units to march on to Mubi and liberate it from Boko Haram control. Soldiers were given a complex strategy which included surrounding Mubi from multiple sides, led by a special strike force.
Setting off at 10 a.m after breakfast, troops from a temporary army base in maiha were ambushed by Boko Haram terrorists miles from Mubi, an attack they successfully overcame.
The source further confirmed that after troops advanced, they were again ambushed by the militants, but the soldiers could not fight back because weaponry on two armored personnel carriers (APCs) became jammed.
Militants then swarmed on the Nigerian troops, killing several of them and conquering Maiha LGA.
A resident of Maiha alleged that the militants attacked the area at 5:30pm local time, killing many soldiers and civilians.
Many soldiers were also killed in nearby Maraba, including a Lieutenant Colonel, while several soldiers remain missing, the source said.
