Boko Haram Invades Konduga, Near Maiduguri
For the fifth time in a few months, the Boko Haram insurgents group Monday launched an Attack in Konduga, a town in Borno State.
Konduga is about 35 kilometers from Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, and is the last forte before Maiduguri, which the insurgents have been aiming to capture.
The insurgents first attacked the town on February 11, killing killed 39 persons and injuring several others, with over 1000 houses set ablaze, but were routed by the Nigerian troops.
Since the first attack, the insurgents have made three other attempts in the town in their bid to expand their conquered territories and possibly attack Maiduguri, but have suffered several defeats with scores of their fighters killed and ammunitions lost to the Nigerian troops.
Boko Haram resorted to market bombing through disguised agents to weaken the morale in Maiduguri and is now again trying to attack the capital.
The Nigerian government has been widely accused of sponsoring Boko Haram against its people and being behind the latest flury of attacks which it is accused of sponsoring to promote the renewal of a State of Emergency, SoE which will be politically valuable for the ruling party. The government has denied these charges.
