How Boko Haram Stormed Giwa Barracks In Maiduguri
The deadly Boko Haram sect Friday morning dealt another deadly blow on the Nigerian Army with the launch of an attack on 23 Armoured Brigade, Giwa Barracks, GRA, Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.
The terrorists who invaded the city through Fori came in ferociously and shooting sporadically at anything in sight The attack which began as early as 7.20 am on Friday, took all the Soldiers unaware as we gathered that they all scampered for safety when they sighted the sect with rocket launchers.
Women, children, men, young and old around the Giwa barracks area were also seen running in confusion.
The Army after initially retreating came back, fighting with heavy military weapons, but could not overwhelm members of the sect who possessed superior weapons.
As the battle raged, an Airforce jet was deployed one hour later, where they continued to fire at the sect, dropping bombs at specific locations until the sect escaped without any any serious casualty on their side
Another eyewitness stated that the sect also sent rocket launchers to the University of Maiduguri hostels, where one of them was allegedly bombed; though we could not confirm its veracity.
There is currently smoke all over the place, while armed policemen have secured some of the major roads, where government establishments are located.
Casualty figures remains unknown as at the time of this report.
