Boko Haram Closes In On Maiduguri, Hundreds Flee
Members of the Boko Haram insurgents group are reportedly closing in on the city of Maiduguri after successfully taken over towns and villages surrounding the city considered the most important in the North East.
In the past few weeks, the sect has taken over towns and villages to the north, east and south of Maiduguri, the last being Bama, the second largest city in Borno State.
With the city encircled, the insurgents are now pushing towards Maiduguri. A source said yesterday that the insurgents have began an apparent push towards Maiduguri by killing some 30 people near Kawuri town. They now have just an army checkpoint in Konduga standing between them and Maiduguri, a city with more than two million residents.
Residents who fear Maiduguri would be the next port of call for the insurgents are already fleeing the city., Reuters report.
