Boko Haram Amnesty Committee Meets Sect Commanders In Kuje Prison
The Presidential Committee set up by President Goodluck Jonathan to engage the members of the Boko Haram sect in a dialogue with the view to peacefully resolve the security challenges in the North today met and held talks with top commanders of the Boko Haram who are in government custody in Kuje prisons.
The meeting according to the committee was part of its move to create a room for dialogue with the groups so as to bring about peace in the country.
The committee was inaugurated few weeks ago by President Goodluck Jonathan after series of calls by majority of Nigerians that govt shall consider amnesty for the group as a way of bringing about peace to the troubled northern region.
Some persons however kicked against amnesty for the group, stressing either that the group does not deserve amnesty or that amnesty will not resolve the issues.
How far the committee goes to prove these people wrong remains to be seen after the three months duration given to submit their report?
