Blast Rocks Tai Plantation In Ogoniland
Explosive devices made from local material Wednesday morning detonated in the controversial Banana Plantation Farm in Tai local government area in the Ogoni axis of the state yesterday, causing fears among community members.
The Tai banana plantation jointly owned by the Rivers State government and a Mexican firm has been a subject of controversy between members of the Ogoni community and the state government.
Confirming the incident, the River State commissioner of Police, Mohammed Indabawa said the blast made from local materials went off around 9am around Zogohr banana plantation.
Indabawa, who said there was no casualty or major destruction to buildings, said two other locally made explosive devices believed to have been planted in the farm by hoodlums, were also recovered .
“The blast was from locally made explosive devices that happened this morning around 9am. It occurred at a banana plantation. There was no casualty. We have recovered two other locally made explosive devices that were planted at the vicinity of the farm and that will be destroyed,” Indabawa said.
