Nigeria’s democracy will not be complete without a mention of the achievements of Binta Masi Garba, Senator-Elect Adamawa North, Nigeria. Binta is a young and dynamic nigerian female politician who has achieved a lot of firsts in her carrier as a politician with the latest being that she is the only female to have been voted as a senator elect from the entire northern region of Nigeria.
As a youth I got attracted to Binta Masi because she started her political carrier in 1998 when she was 32 years and consolidated it into a victory in 1999 as the youngest parliamentarian in Nigeria then. If I don’t support such gallantry and show of initiative. Binta represented Kaduna South constituency for two terms from 1999 and was later called by her parental state to contest for Michika/Madagali constituency in Adamawa based on the sterling achievements she had made. Binta is the first female political party chairman when she chaired the APC in Adamawa before she resigned to contest for the senate representing Adamawa north which she won squarely to defeat the current Governor of the state Bala Ngilari with over 22,000 votes margin. Binta’s achievements are too numerous to mention and honestly a young man like me will have no choice than to identify with such excellence.
Having won the senate seat in the just concluded elections, I have been seen calls from different quarters seeking for the APC party to allow Binta an opportunity to be the Deputy Senate President and I am 100% in support of that because I know such move will only project her the more and at the same time give our young women from the north an opportunity to see every reason to participate in political processes. Binta’s credence and achievements in the past has placed her above board for such position and I advocate for the APC to consider such a move because it will further enhance the change that has come to stay as well as showcase the party as being gender sensitive especially as it has to do with the involvement of women in the scheme of things in Nigeria. Binta Masi is well entrenched within the electorates from the different constituencies she has represented and I guess that is the reason she has found it easy to win and have good tenures of all the positions she has won before now. When one has such virtues, she must be supported to achieve more because her progression simply means the progression of the larger society. Going by this, it is evident to see that Binta’s accession to the position of the Deputy senate president will automatically the empowerment of more women and youths because her qualities show it will trickle down.
Having said all this, I wish to congratulate the APC for conducting appropriate primaries that have presented it an opportunity to create history in different fronts. I also encourage them to continue to consolidate on such strategy of all inclusiveness so as to further consolidate as the largest and most bonded party you can find around the world. I also wish Binta Masi all the best in her quest too further enrich the history she has already made by being a first in many fronts. I see her becoming a governor in her state and subsequently a president of the country someday going by her steady political progress.
God bless the incoming administration.
