Bauchi APC: Giant Party, Loose Opposition By Sabiu Zaranda
“If you have no one to warn you on the ground you trend, your doom is near and that is the end of your arrogance. Wait and see what will happen to the party whose method I have described.“
– Sir Ahmadu Bello Sardauna of Sokoto.
Even in developed countries one can’t rule out grumbles after election, so experiencing such scenario in a developing nation like Nigeria where democracy is still a baby is not something to be panicky about, but a serious issue that needs to be addressed squarely.
Now that the APC congress and national convention are over, several topsy-turvy on the possible outcome and the fear of the party’s fate that was prophesied, if certain people failed to clinch the party leadership is also over. The emergence of Hon Uba Nana as state chairman party was seen by numerous party well wishers as the best alternative and the only reason why Bauchi APC remains an entity, without a recognized faction at state level.
Even though there are some stake holders that raises serious allegation against the political pedigree of Hon Uba Nana and expressed fear of turning Bauchi APC into PDP appendages due to the Uba Nana’s antecedent with the current National chairman of PDP and the possibility of him dancing to the tunes of some people that are vying for elective offices, which we strongly opposed before, but now we were left with our mouth wide open because the mouth off of those stake holders start showing a green light.
It’s not my wish to drag anybody’s image into the mud but this pieces is necessary to clear the smoke screen in our party with which some unscrupulous state executives have sought to cover up their dubiousness and greed after getting people’s mandate and confidence. As the popular Hausa saying goes “Ana zaton wuta a makera sai aka ganshi a masaka” which literally means that the problem arises from different angle rather than from the point of anticipation.
A lot had happen prior, during and after the state congresses and national convention of the APC, but members grin and bear it without getting at anybody, for the purpose of unity and expression of solidarity to the elected party officials. Despite that some executives continue to show ingratitude, by making double standard in romancing rich elites within PDP cycle and government officials. All hiding under condolence visit, Ramadan/Sallah homage and so on, while causing disaffection and rivalry among APC loyalist to the extend that the rivalries between APC members is more pronounced when compared between APC and PDP followers. The instigation of recent political turmoil that was deliberately caused by some vested interest on the position of zonal women leader which was given to Bauchi state is uncalled for, which need to be sort out as soon as possible.
Let it be clear to everyone that we don’t want leadership that thinks our people are for sale to the highest bidder who can offer them huge fee. If really they are looking for helping hands, then we have a lot of resource personnel in our midst that can move the party (APC) to greater height. The vast experience of such people is clearly open for a blind man to see and neglecting them will only revive the old wound that was not properly healed.
It is my sincere hope and wish that party executive and followers will set aside all those things that are threatening our existence as a party by looking at the appropriate channel in building prosperous and strong opposition that will bring progress to our vast members across the length and breadth of Bauchi state, which will astonish our rivals to join us sooner than later.
Success will only come to us if the outline problems are address firmly and objectively.
LONG LIVE APC.
