Ayo Fayose and his Godfather By Ahmed Adeyemi
When Ekiti Election was flagged off and Ayo Fayose was taunted to be the less qualified candidate to win the primary elections of the PDP due to issues emanating from his first stay in the Ekiti Government house, his co-contestants might not have seen a loophole in their own candidacy and their bids because of not been an associate of the Wadata House and the presidency.
Fayose who has no verifiable antecedent for the position he seeks except for his personal generosity and disgraced first tenure, which was not enough to coast to victory in the primaries, thought it wise to engage the presidency and seek the support of the Wadata coordinates especially that of the PDP chairman who has been an old time friend.
Godfathers are ascribed as persons who have strong political power to impose or support individuals to achieve their political ambitions (vice versa); this led to the involvement of President Jonathan to surreptitiously maneuver the outcome of the Ekiti Primaries and bargain a soft landing and imposition of Ayo Fayose on the PDP disgruntled contestant’s with paltry promises.
That was the first hurdle that was won for Ayo Fayose by a political Godfatherism syndrome; I tend to find it awkward in my opinion when Ayo Fayose comes publicly to flagrantly wave aside the issue of Godfather in his re-election bid.
Fayose who is known to be closer to the grassroots in his state, than any other politician in the south west was truly saleable to the people of his state than any other candidate but did not have the financial muscle to be successful in the poll.
The President who canvassed for votes for Fayose and might have supported his campaign with an humongous sum because he was desperate to win the Ekiti election so as to bring back confidence to the PDP and his own candidacy for 2015, without which, might have seen the presidents bid for a second term drabbling in wishful thinking because the PDP would have passed a lack of no confidence in him.
The Godfather also made use of the federal machineries in the name of security operatives to make sure his plans were carried out efficiently and perfectly.
Ayo Fayose should be reminded that without the presidents support for his candidature he would never have won this election, because every Nigerian past and present President is a Godfather, and the present president is not an exception because he just started brooding is own chicks.
