Automatons: Crab And Fish Without The Pepper Soup Narratives, By Ade Ilemobade
In African cosmological world views specifically in themes of the Yoruba fable genre and our specie of fictitious narratives we have what we call “FABU” an over-exaggerated concocted story built on the superstructure of what looks like a mythological fairytales telling us about legendary stories of supernatural happenings just like the Greek mythology crafted into automatons by Hephaistos and Daidalos to illustrate their significance.
It was the same fabulousness experience wise I got penultimate weekend in october when I was transported into the realm of transcendentalism “a philosophy which says that thought and spiritual things are more real than ordinary human experience and material things”
It was a sunny sky weekend in october while on vacation in Nigeria that this august “transcendental experience” happened to me when my driver and I started off on a journey to Ondo Town from Abeokuta ahahaaa!
You might be wondering what this experience is all about ohoohooo! look no farther we stopped at Ore, Ondo state to have a taste of the indigenous cuisine at the popular Crab and Fish joint without the pepper soup yeparipaaa! in what seems from afar a nondescript Bukateria but to my amazement and lord behold I was in a five star restaurant. Really I have to give the compliment for this amazing discovery via a bush path to my driver.
Nigeria is an interesting nation if and when you have the opportunity to travel around the country and have a one on one corresponding conversation with people at the grassroot then you will notice, observe and understand that Nigerians are not asking for too much from their elected officials rather what they want and need are the basic essentials of life and the rest they will do on their own if and when that conducive environment is/has been created and that was one of my takeaways from conversations I had at the Crab and Fish joint in Ore, Ondo state.
When we left the joint I asked my driver what his views are on the second part of my takeaways which is the spiritual coloration espoused about political maladministration of Nigeria and the role of voodoo or juju and prophetic forecast or predictions from the new age evangelistic churches in Nigeria that most of the transport union members we spoke to take as creed.
His responses took me aback and totally flabbergasted when he said ”Oga na true ooo” most of the spiritual killings in Nigeria are done for the politicians and pastorpreneurs who employ the services of miscreants amongst the transport union members for procurement of body parts to do juju as a means to advance their political or ministry fortune uhmmmm! I do not like fairytales pepper soup narratives.
I found his comments unfathomable as I wonder how on earth is it that our people in this digitalised millenium still spew out such gibberish to elucidate or rationalise the failure of government to govern properly based on the fundamental principles of equity, fairness, egalitarianism and democracy eyah! the only ”consolation” I had for myself at that point is to say maybe my driver is a member of Ruben Abati congregation only looking at the spiritual side of life to wish away incompetence.
We do not wish away incompetence in Ondo state; we send them packing with ”immediate alacrity” no time for witches and wizards, if they attempt to appear they will not be given the chance to disappear because the broom they fly with will be taken away from them and we will sweep then out of Ondo State Government House Alagbaka.
Mimiko is an example of incompetence driven out with ”immediate alacrity” and now we have new kid on the block that must learn the tricks of the trade quickly. Akeredolu must move with supersonic energy to deliver quick wins of democracy for the people of Ondo State via executive actions taken within his first 100days in office.
I wish him success going forward. Congratulations to the governor elect of Ondo state.
