2015: Prominent Civil Society Groups in Kaduna Endorses El-Rufai

A large number of Civil Society Organisations in Kaduna state have endorsed Mallam Nasiru El Rufai as their preferred candidate for the forthcoming gubernatorial elections. This occurred during a roundtable discussion organised by the Rescue Kaduna Group (RKG).

The round table discussion which held in Kaduna at the Kabir Gymnasium on Tuesday 20th January 2015, had in attendance four hundred and seventy six (476) Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Community Based Organisations (CBOs) and Faith Based Organisations (FBOs)

The roundtable discussion focused on Kaduna state in the past, present and the future. The discussion was facilitated by the eminent Professor of History, Professor Sule Bello, from the renowned Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Participants at the roundtable discussion recounted the glorious heritage of Kaduna state in the past, lamented on the current development plight and suggested means for moving the state forward.

At an opinion poll conducted during the event, representatives of CSOs, CBOs and FBOs were asked to choose among the list of candidates to be elected for office in the forthcoming elections. The names presented to them were James Bawa Magaji of Labour Party (LP), Mallam Nasir El Rufai of All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Muhktar Ramalan Yero of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Polycarp Danladi Gankon of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and Mohammed Sani Ahmad of the Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN).

An analysis of the results of the opinion poll revealed that out of the 476 organisations present, 387 of the organisations present favoured the emergence of Mallam Nasir El Rufai of the APC as the next Executive Governor, 64 organisations preferred the emergence of James Bawa Magaji of the Labour Party as Executive Governor, 9 organisations chose Dr Muhktar Ramalan Yero of the PDP as their preferred gubernatorial candidate and 2 organisations chose Polycarp Danladi Gankon of APGA. The gubernatorial candidate of PPN, Mohammed Sani Ahmad, did not get any vote. 14 of the organisations present were undecided as to who to pick.

A communiqué was drafted and presented towards the end of the event adducing reasons for the overwhelming support given to Mallam Nasir El Rufai. Prominent Civil Society Organisations like, the Southern Kaduna Renaissance Movement, Women Advocacy Network, the Arewa Liberation Movement, Igbo Youths Peace and Unity Initiative, the Zaria Youths Network and several others were signatories to the communiqué.

Going by the support exhibited in the poll, Mallam Nasir El Rufai may have an easy coast to victory since CSOs, CBOs and FBOs are political organisations that are closer to the people at the community level.

Zaria Maulud Khatmah: Sheikh Zakzaky Tasks Muslims on Unity

Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, His Eminence Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky says there was never a time when unity of the Muslim Ummah was more paramount than now when enemies are all out against it.

He made the statement at the grand finale (Khatmah) of the birthday of the Holy Prophet in Zaria and environs, which took place at the Zaria City Juma’at Mosque on Yesterday.

He said, “This is not the time for sectional sentiments and divisible statements among Muslims. Enemies of Islam are sponsoring campaigns of calumny among Muslims, and any Muslim who engages in acts of disunity or making foul statements on his fellow Muslims, is doing their dirty work. This is the work of the Zionist enemies. We should not give room to disunity among us to serve our enemies”.

Sheikh Zakzaky also enumerated strategies being used by enemies of Islam to pollute minds of gullible Muslim youths, especially young girls by way of popular culture, bad films, internet and acts inimical to Islam.

“They chose young girls as tools, knowing that young girls will be mothers of tomorrow and they will disseminate such bad culture imbibed to their children, and eventually the whole society”, he remarked.

His Eminence further said, the current anti-Islam posture was he issue of false flag operations, in which they created fake Jihadist groups and brand them terrorists. “The whole aim is to brand and present Islam in bad image, as a religion of terrorists which must be abhorred.

Through made up images and news broadcasts, they show that Islam is synonymous with terrorism. Having that inculcated into the psyche of the people, they would have justification for all-out war on Islam and Muslims”.

Citing the Nigerian episode, he said, because they could not find among Muslims groups in Nigeria that could do their dirty work, they created a faceless terror cell in the name of “Boko Haram”, senselessly killing people, with the highest causality among the Muslims in the northern part of the country.

He wondered how a Jihadist group with an agenda of establishing an Islamic society through the teachings of Prophet Muhammad will engage in senseless killing of Muslims in mosques. “This is ridiculing Islam and Muslims! We cannot be fooled.

All the killings is done by the government of Ebele Jonathan through the security forces with substantial direct assistance from his foreign masters. Their hands are visible in all the arson and killings across the country.

Nigerian government led by Ebele Jonathan is the real Boko Haram, while Jonathan and his security operatives are machineries implementing the killings. Let no one be deceived that there is a group of Muslims called Boko Haram.

How can a Muslim on a Jihad mission kill people indiscriminately, including his fellow Muslim?” The Leader said, while this was going on and Muslims were commemorating the birthday of Prophet Muhammad, the enemies decided to strike at the heart and very existence of Islam and Muslims, with an unfortunate blasphemous cartoon by a Paris-based magazine, Charlie Hebdo.

He pointed out that, the Charlie Hebdo issue was clandestinely planned as part of the on-going war on Islam. “They exposed themselves by an immediate gathering in Paris to express solidarity with the magazine. That gave them way.

Those present at the gathering were in a way openly telling us they are enemies of our Beloved Prophet. They held hand with the greatest terrorists in the world such as Benjamin Netanyahu and Kerry supporting the blasphemous publication”.

Sheikh Zakzaky further explained that, “Having known our enemies and the manner they operate, let no Muslim copy the enemies of Prophet Muhammad by painting our brethren in a bad image, either verbally or in form of a cartoon as did Charlie Hebdo. You do not have to draw or make foul statement on any Islamic scholar or anyone to disagree with him. If you do that, you are copying Charlie Hebdo, our enemies”.

He concluded by giving glad tidings that Islam will eventually triumph: “Whether they like it or not, Islam will eventually triumph. Islam will be firmly established against all odds. Let Muslims face this global challenge as did the Holy Prophet through good and exemplary conduct. The Prophet of Islam triumphed over his enemies not by sword, but good conduct”.

INEC Declares PDP Candidate Winner of Feb 14 Elections, Disqualifies Seven Governorship Candidates

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has disqualified seven governorship candidates from various parties from participating in the February 28 governorship election for failing to nominate their running mates while declaring the People’s Democratic Party, PDP candidate for Ado/Opoku/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency in Benue State, Christian Adabah Abah, as winner of the February 14, 2015 general elections.

Explaining reasons for declaring Abah winner for the election that was yet to hold, INEC said it was because he (Abah) is the sole candidate seeking election into the House of Representative election.

These were contained in INEC’s daily bulletin on the election yesterday, saying that the common offence of the governorship candidates was their inability to nominate their running mates.

In a Decision Extract signed by the Director (Commission’s Secretariat), Ishiaku Gali, INEC has also approved that the House of Representatives election in Ado/Opoku/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency of Benue State, being uncontested, the nominated candidate should be declared elected on the day of the election by the Returning Officer,” adding that, “Section 41 (1) of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) provides that: If after expiration of time for delivering of nomination papers, withdrawal of candidates and the extension of time as provided for in this Act, there is only one person whose name is validly nominated in respect of an election, other than to the office of the President or Governor, that person shall be declared elected.”

The parties and the states affected by the disqualification according to the INEC, are the Peoples Party of Nigeria, PPN, in Delta State; Labour Party, LP, in Niger State and the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, in Ogun State.

Others are the Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN, in Oyo state; United Democratic Party, UDP, in Rivers State; and Peoples Democratic Movement, PDM, in Sokoto and Zamfara states respectively.

The commission said: “Section 187 of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) provides that a candidate to the office of a Governor shall not be deemed to be validly nominated for such office unless he appoints another candidate as his running mate who shall occupy the office of Deputy Governor.’’

Fayose; A Governor without Honour By Maxwell Adegbenro

No fewer that 895 shares, 2,956 retweets, over 1,500 reactions trailed the much criticized publication credited to the people of Ekiti January 18, 2014 on all social network accounts.

I am aware the advertisement was authored and signed by Peter Ayodele Fayose, the erstwhile controversial Governor caught passing under Barbed-wire at Muritala International Airport. The advertorial is still trending abuses, hurling insults on the people of Ekiti state who voted an animal as Governor. One of the many tweets and reactions that encouraged this piece was that of Obasanjo, Omojuwa and Nasir El-Rufai. The trio are frontline public figures who had never negotiated their feeling on any issue bothering Nigeria populace.

The tweets and reactions though personal opinion dished a hot slap amidst humpty pomp on the integrity of Ekiti. Yes, like the gambol adage “omosan lo lu popo mo Iya e” I found that offensive like every Ekiti person though half birthed. I also knew well enough like Fayose want us to be believe the advertorial was his thought though provoking not Ekiti breathed opinion but his, Ayodele Fayose, Governor of Ekiti.

I was able to dissociate Ekiti State with over 3million populated people from the Governor representing the interest of his party and self opinion.

In politics such interest is not contractile of just party ideologies.

This,Governor Fayose may not know.

Ayodele Fayose can fly his view, opinion and vote. Infact, that of his wife, children if they are eligible and all sworn allies. In fair view, that is the least reason any sane minded person that know Fayose’s record should take him serious.

Am aware many may not remember that, Fayose was the Governor between 2003 -2006. Don’t ask me why he didn’t spend the usual 4years.

Anyone with incorrigible track record of death in UK coming back home with bearing tale of another name isn’t worth ruling a knowledge flowing state like Ekiti. This Femi Falana, Babafemi Ojudu, the Osuntokun’s, Wole Olanipekun, Babalola Borisade, Tunde Adeniran and Dare Babarinsa, Chief Afe Babalola obviated immediately the reality of the scammer turned Governor dawned on them. The struggle was inevitably fought for collective reason and upholding the common value, honor and interest of an average Ekiti indegene.

With the various publications and widespread reports of his assailed crimes which revolves round maiming, assaulting, theft, corruption, judicial rape, notably was killing of Ayo Daramola, a former World Bank Consultant and executive clamp-down on opposition in the state paved way for his historical exit from the state through the thick dark disguise. At that, there was high level of criminal cases instituted against the supposed peoples Governor. EFCC and ICPC later trial was a pointer to the constitutional exchanges between Ayo Fayose and the House of Assembly which unintermitently stained his executive immunity.

Believe me, Peter Ayodele Fayose is a house-hold name for controversy and trivial issues. For every controversial statement credited to him he has his sneaky way of sequestering the trouble on the Presidency.

So, I am genuinely amused if anyone who knows him is surprised at his action

Of course, toddlers and younger political analyst might be naïve of Fayose’s uncultured activism in Ekiti. What do you call a Governor with all the exalted paraphernalia of office chasing traditional rulers openly with sole aim of embarrassing the revered Oba. His offence, he had openly criticised “Oshokomole” the name his goons and traducers call him.

What do you call a man that fought all institution of government including students, and drivers unions to coma leaving only an unfairly taste of recourse after his exit? When I saw people’s concern and huge effort to discredit Fayose on issue like this I get offended and bothered. Gov Fayose has only displayed his immoral extremism for trivial sentiment in defending his Principal.

The many reasons Fayose and his agents of destruction shouldn’t be taken serious are; in his gaffes and lies. Taking a breather example of such was during his official thanksgiving in Ado Ekiti, a picture of him prostrating before God and spiritual fathers on alter is a far inapt to the “New Man”, “Change Man” assurances and promises given to his bad mediocres.

Someone that lied on God, lied on his children shouldn’t white-wash our refine mentality as a right thinking democrat. All he has consistently done is wear torn garment of honour with pride.

Gov Fayose must have taken an overdose of his acerbic drug. This was in reflection in the widely justifying statement released after the advertorial gaffe. He said “It is in defence of fairness that I called attention to the potential crisis we may face God forbid that the health of the general becomes a hindrance” What a big ruse and accelerated farce! Wait, will it be fair to say Gov Fayose doesn’t read more than Tribune Newspaper who lack peoples merit in choice of high-flying means of reaching the people?

Someone should remind Fayose that the Plasma HD Television at Oke Ayoba and Govenors office is not for decoration. Outrightly, Fayose’s Buhari death wish though condemnable and ridiculous of a person with blemish character and spurious personality inciting the people against the people mandate on the frivolous excuse of death can only mean one good thing, Fayose and Jonathan couldn’t stand by the reality of Buhari’s rising fame and acceptance.

President Jonathan’s Chief Thug should have confided so much in AIT if not Channels in feeding him the truth about the peoples General whereabout. As at that cacophonous assumption that The APC Presidential candidate is jetting out for health issue, he was in Abuja with his predecessor Dr Kayode Fayemi preparing for Niger and Kaduna rally. That doesn’t go for anything than an outright condemnation and distasteful embarrassment to the exalted office of Governor. It would have been out of context for those criticizing him if he had restrict the wondrous slander to his name only in line with the dispirited dossier of a Governor without an honor.

Consequently upon this, it reminded Nigerians once again that for Ekiti people is a Governor that was not meant to be. Governor Fayose doesn’t represent the interest of the Ekiti people.

There are lots of issues that need his executive attention as political leader rather than rubbing shoulder with his old political fathers. It is obvious Buhari wasn’t the main target really. Fayose is still miffed that he is barred from pushing his hatred and resentment for Obasanjo further than Newspaper attacks especially when it is becoming glaring the former President is ready to dump his boss, Jonathan.

One of the many issues is the non-payment of salaries, his running battles with the legislative arm of government and not to forget his judicial recklessness hanging on his neck. He is the first Governor in the history of Nigeria to have beaten up a judge and also threaten another judge for handling a case. And there is also the constitutional breach of passing 2015 budget with just 7 lawmakers in attendance, Illegal impeachment of authentic speaker and scare threat issued to the progressive honourables have not been settled. High level security breach in the state where armed robbers robbed broad day light, car snatches with heavy armoury and assault on opposition should have been the major concern of a serious Governor.

Until all these are addressed, Gov Fayose statement(s) and contribution(s) to national issues should be treated as a mere utterance of a drunk and unserious public servant.

This is the time, not later. We should just get serious with our campaign and strategy because Fayose has lost his garment of honor and shouldn’t be taken serious

Jonathan’s Corrupt Govt Fuels Unemployment – Buhari Support Organisation

The  failure of good governance in Nigeria under President Goodluck  Jonathan-led PDP administration  remains the most significant and reliable explanation for unemployment and  insurgency.

The former CBN Governor Prof. Charles Soludo, indicated sometimes ago that  Northern Nigeria under the PDP misrule is worse hit by poverty . He provided   statistics  which  indicated that people living below poverty line  in the three geopolitical zones  of Northern Nigeria during the  years of PDP  governance misrule were  as follows:

North- Eastern Zone  72.2 %;
North – West  Zone  71.1%;
North-Central Zone 67.0%.

Aljazeera also collaborated the above picture during the early stages  of  Boko Haram crisis when an in-depth  analysis about Nigeria as the 5th largest producer of oil in the world was conducted. They came up with the findings that the bulk of Nigeria’s vast population, live below the poverty line of 1$ a day. Consequently, the teeming population of unemployed youth, generated under the misrule of the PDP government, especially in the urban centers ,take full advantage of  opportunity provided by sectarian crisis to wreck havoc on the economic institutions of the state.

With the youth constituting 70% of the population, and  over 60% of them lacking  jobs and better opportunity, a clear nexus therefore  exists between the PDP government mass youth  poverty in the land on one hand and frustration-fueled violence on the other.

A visiting US Secretary of Sate, Hilary Clinton, had  warned that ‘’The most immediate source of disconnect between Nigeria’s wealth and its poverty is failure of governance at the Federal, State, and local government levels. Lack of  transparency and accountability has eroded the legitimacy of government and contributed to the rise of groups that embrace violence and reject the authority of the state .This warning by The US Secretary of State was never considered nor  accepted by the PDP led government.

Reverend Father Kukah postulated same when he stated “Evil effects of bad governance, corruption, total lack of security and welfare, have all become part of our daily lives. Clearly in the eyes of the sect members, the persistence of corruption, collapse of public morality, injustice and so on, could only be attributed to those who govern. In their reasoning, those who govern us do so because they have acquired their tools by gaining western education.

“In fact, nearly every country facing an extremist insurgency, from Nigeria to Afghanistan to the Philippines, is run by a kleptocratic clique. And almost every popular revolt aimed at toppling a government in recent years, from the Arab uprisings to Ukraine’s revolution, began as a protest against acute corruption.” – Sarah Chayes”

According to Geoffrey York of the Globe and Mail from far away Johannesburg, the widespread poverty in northern Nigeria, largely excluded from the country’s oil wealth, occasioned by gross corruption, is a key reason for the social unrest that fuels the growing strength of Boko Haram, the radical Islamist group.

But Geoffrey York is not alone in this line of thinking. At the home front, Salihu Isa Nataro former National Democratic Party, NDP, gubernatorial candidate in Kebbi State in 2007 and now of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in an interview with the National Mirror opined that Boko Haram has festered due to corruption and inhuman treatment of the people by the leaders.

Just recently some British citizens  were reported to have been arrested for their involvement in the unwholesome bribe for sale of decommissioned Naval vessels by Tompolo. Where on earth does one ask a rat to guide the crayfish! This can only happen under the Jonathan-led corrupt PDP government where the statutory function of our glorious Navy are taken away from them and given to a notorious former militant.

Olisa Metu’s  Jonathan-led PDP is certainly afraid of the towering emergence of  an icon of integrity, the amiable nationwide crowd-pulling APC Presidential flag bearer, General Buhari  in the  current political firmament of Nigeria.

The Fani Kayode’s of this world who fundamentally are lacking in character but are threatening to make GMB’S character an issue will only end up mocking themselves by the time he is unveiled to Nigerians who may not know him.  Former  PDP Minister of Information, Labaran Maku  recently  describe PDP with such adjectives that revealed the mind set of PDP and its corrupt leadership.

Only time will offer the insight as to  what the likes of Doyin Okupe, Ruben Abati and the Jonathan twitter  specialist, Pastor Reno Omokri  have to say  about PDP shortly.

The perception of PDP locally and globally is one that is inept , corrupt, clueless and overtly kleptocratic . Our electorate  should  vote them  out of power massively for Nigerians to regain her pride of place among  the comity of nations. Once the opposition  parties in Nigeria agreed to  come together, they were  duty bound to SECURE AND PROSPER THIS  NATION  by   sweeping  away the clueless and inept People Destroying Party (PDP) out of office.  It happened in Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, Ivory Coast even in Sri Lanka recently.

It is quite clear why the PDP government is baring their fangs of impunity more frequently these days. These are obvious signs  that PDP is undergoing the final stages of “political rigor mortis”, the final macabre dance of death. PDP will very soon rest in perfect peace as  APC  commences  to salvage Nigeria.

Abia, Truly God’s Own state, By Sam Hart

The founding fathers of Abia State either by divine intuition or by sheer force of their faith gave the state the epithet of God’s Own State. By that singular action, the fathers of our state handed the future of the state into the limitless hands of God the Father to guide the destiny of the state. It goes without saying that whatever is committed into God’s hands stands the test of time and is able to withstand all forms of storm that buffet it. Abia has been through storms but today, the state is standing on a stable platform and without a doubt, it is poised to witness a new paradigm of positive development and unified pulling in one direction.
God in his infinite wisdom used the incumbent Governor of Abia State, Chief T.A. Orji, CON to unify the state politically and align all major political tendencies under one literal and figurative umbrella – the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Today, Abia State is undeniably and indisputably a PDP State. In the 2011 General elections, the State recorded a feat only equalled by 2 other states in the entire federation to wit all the elected officials from Abia State were all members of one political party – the Peoples Democratic Party. Abia State gave the 3rd largest percentage vote tally to the election of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as substantive President of Nigeria, Chief T.A. Orji was re-elected Governor of Abia State by a moonslide margin, all 3 Senators running under the Peoples Democratic Party won their election, same for all 8 House of Representative Members and all 24 Members of the Abia State House of Assembly. History was made in Abia State as such a feat had never before been achieved in the political history of the state. That feat was as a result of the unifying acumen of Chief T.A. Orji and he has maintained that quality till date.

Today, primaries for the candidates of the PDP into various elections have since held nationwide. All the states surrounding Abia State are in the vicious throes of intractable crisis arising from the outcome of the primaries with the PDP facing fears of implosion and loss at the elections in several states but in tune with our epithet of God’s Own State, Abia PDP has come out of the primaries stronger, more united and stable than ever to face the coming elections.

The Governorship Primaries of Abia PDP was transparently conducted and all the aspirants were at the venue of the Primaries and witnessed the emergence of the eventual winner Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu. Nobody stormed out of the venue in protest, no group held Press Conferences denouncing the primaries, nobody rejected the outcome, no one alleged any foulplay and no one made representations to the PDP National Headquarters demanding a cancellation of the process. Everything was transparently done and those who lost knew that they lost fair and square. Worthy of note is the fact that all those who contested the Governorship Primaries of the PDP are still staunch members of the Party. Not one of them has defected to another political party. You do not need any further pointer than this to acknowledge the fact that the process was transparent and manifestly fair.

Today, the PDP in Abia State has published the list of all her candidates going into the elections. The various candidates are tested men and women who are popular in their various localities. The State PDP has equally inaugurated a formidable Campaign Council headed by Senator Emma Nwaka, the immediate past State Chairman of the Party and a man who knows how to win elections. Campaigns are on-going and the state is in a frenzy of expectation. A random sampling of the opinion of most Abians reveal clearly that Abia is and will remain a PDP State after the 2015 elections. A few individuals will traditionally make the requisite noise about their ambition and they are indeed making these noises but when it comes down to the wire, the people of Abia State will stick with the Peoples Democratic Party because it is the party that best guarantees them the actualization of their collective yearnings and aspirations.

It is noteworthy that the main national opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) has little or no presence in Abia State unlike other neighbouring states where it is the party in power and where not, has formidable politicians in its midst. The party that would have been ascribed a semblance of strength in the state, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is caught in a web of crisis arising from factionalisation such that it currently parades two sets of candidates for most positions it is presenting candidates for in the state. This is aside from the fact that the governorship candidates of the two factions of the party are not in any position to present any challenge to the dominance of the Peoples Democratic Party. Other parties get a mere mention here because they are barely managing to thread water not to talk of presenting any stiff challenge.

After all said and done. PDP has Abia on lockdown at all levels. By the time the results of the 2015 are announced in Abia State, it will be thirty seven over thirty seven as Abians will vote President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for Governor, the 3 Senators contesting under the platform of the PDP, the 8 House of Representatives candidates of the PDP and the 24 House of Assembly Candidates presented by the PDP.

And so shall it be.

Sam Hart

Press Statement By Muhammadu Buhari on His Certificate Controversy

Insists I Have A Certificate

Press Statement by General Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, on the School Certificate Issue

Good Morning , Gentlemen of the Press.

I only consented to address you this morning because of the genuine concern expressed by many supporters and other well-meaning Nigerians that the issue be addressed. Otherwise, I would have dismissed it for what it is—sheer mischief and would not have considered it an issue worth the nation’s while.

I had assumed all along that all my records were in the custody of the Military Secretary of the Nigerian Army. Much to my surprise, we are now told that although a record of the result is available, there are no copies of the certificates in my personal file. This is why I formally requested my old school the Provincial Secondary School, Katsina [which is now known as Government College, Katsina] to make available the school’s copy of the result of the Cambridge/West African School Certificate. This will be made available to the press the moment this is available.

However, before we obtain that, let me say for the record that I attended Provincial Secondary School, Katsina. I graduated in 1961 with many prominent Nigerians, including General Shehu Yar’adua, former chief of staff at the Supreme Headquarters, and Justice Umaru Abdullahi, a former President of the Court of Appeal. We sat for the University of Cambridge/WASC Examination together in 1961, the year we graduated. My examination number was 8280002, and I passed the examination in the Second Division.

And although the ruling party may want to wish this away, the issue in this campaign cannot be my certificate which I obtained 53 years ago. The issues are the scandalous level of unemployment of millions of our young people, the state of insecurity, the pervasive official corruption which has impoverished our people and the lack of concern of the government for anything other than the retention of power at all costs.

Thank you very much.

General Muhammadu Buhari

FG Slashes Petrol Price By N10 as Oil Plunges

The Federal Government on Sunday announced the reduction of the fuel price of petrol from N97 per litre to N87 per litre.

The Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, said at a press conference at the presidential villa, Abuja, that the new price regime would take effect immediately.

Mrs. Alison-Madueke said the N10 reduction in fuel price was necessitated by the reduction in crude oil prices in the international market.

She said: “I will like to announce the reduction in the price of Premium Motor Spirit by N10. Therefore, the reduction would be from N97 per litre to N87 per litre and this would be effective from midnight Sunday, January 18, 2015. In line with this I have directed the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, PPPRA, and the Directorate of Petroleum Resources to ensure that there is strict adherence of this regime as it takes effect from midnight Sunday, January 18. I do hope that the entire country will benefit immensely from this reduction of the pump price.”

The price of petroleum products was fixed at N97 in January 2012 after the administration made an abortive move for the full deregulation of the downstream sector which initially saw petrol prices rocket to more than N140 per litre. The move was challenged by a general uprising across the country led by the Occupy Nigeria movement which organised city shutdowns across some of the major cities in the country.

The new price is a reversal of government’s policy on the matter, especially considering the comments by the Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweal.

Following the call from various quarters that the pump price of the product be reduced to reflect the price of crude in the international market, Okonjo-Iweala, had insisted on December 17 that Nigeria would  not reduce the pump price of fuel despite falling oil prices, until the revenue crisis occasioned by the dwindling oil rates is over.Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala said at the time that the decision to review fuel price either upwards or downwards would only be taken after the current crisis in global oil prices had been settled.

Idriss Deby of Chad Dispatches Troops to Capture Nigeria’s Baga without President Jonathan’s Permission

That there is a vacuum in Nigeria’s leadership is not in dispute; however the recent declaration by the president of Chad, Idriss Deby compounds Nigeria’s delicate situation and threatens the nation’s sovereign integrity.

As reported by the AFP in an article of January 17, 2015, captioned “Thousands see off Chadian troops to fight Boko Haram,” Idriss Deby the authoritarian leader of Chad, Nigeria’s north eastern neighbor, said “in a speech read by the speaker of parliament that the new deployment (of Chadian troops to Cameroon) aimed to recapture Baga.”

Cameroon had requested for and welcomed the deployment that saw 400 Chadian military vehicles arrive in Cameroon. [AFP]

However Nigeria was not invited to the table.

Nigeria’s military leadership as quoted by the AFP are “lukewarm.” The word is defined by Google dictionary thus: “(of a person, attitude, or action) unenthusiastic.”

Nigeria’s military spokesperson, GEN Olukolade said as quoted by the AFP: “All support for our operations will be welcome, but it must conform with our own ongoing operations.”

Inasmuch as Baga at the border with Chad and another 14 to 20 local governments in Nigeria by all means needs various degrees of military liberation from Boko Haram’s control, a Chadian intervention without approval by the African union or explicit approval by Nigeria’s government, even though lacking and inebriated infringes on the laws of national sovereignty; and prompts further suspicion of the intentions of Nigeria’s neighbors who have reportedly been permissive and in some cases frankly supportive of Boko Haram [See CNN].

The Chadian government and the government of Niger pulled out their troops from the multi-national force stationed at Nigeria’s northeastern border late last year leading up to and enabling the Boko Haram massacre that resulted in 2500 to 3000 dead.  The stationing of troops by Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger by November 1 of 2014 was agreed upon by the four nations at the Paris summit in May of last year.

Acknowledging a vacancy of leadership in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital of government; the new do-it-our-way, without Nigeria’s or any other openly known regional or global union’s explicit authorization challenges years-long developed modalities of territorial interrelation.

Boko Haram terrorists are known to organize, train and source weapons from Chad, Niger and Cameroon.  Nigeria has over the past years demanded these nations seal their borders and disallow terrorist’s assemblies on their soil.  The McCain approach of total disregard to “some guy called Goodluck Jonathan,” disregards Nigerians as a whole and compounds an already highly suspicious situation and pits Nigerians to choose between Boko Haram (mostly) foreign terrorists’ invasion and foreign leaderships’ invasion.

Nigerians in the affected territories swear that Chad president, Idriss Deby is a sponsor and financier of Boko Haram.  A majority of Boko Haram insurgents are Chadians [SaharaReporters, Jan 14, 2015].  There is undeniably a serious problem here. In the course of Nigeria’s French neighbors partnering and protecting their interests, this cannot be done with permission of terror to Nigeria and at any risk to Nigeria’s territorial integrity. [See: “Serious Allegations of Cameroon, Chad Arming Boko Haram Is Act of Terror And War;” ENDS.ng Oct 14, 2014]

In October last year, Nigeria’s president and the president of Chad jointly declared a very suspicious cessation of fire against Boko Haram [Which ENDS promptly rejected on behalf of Nigerians]. This leadership ‘blunder’ which world unions and lead groups were slow to recognize led to the strengthening of Boko Haram and the deaths of thousands more innocent Nigerians and Cameroonians. The world cannot continue to sit and watch these deadly conspiracies and administrative ‘errors.’

John Dramani Mahama, of Ghana, head of the regional Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS on Friday called for an African action against the Boko Haram regional threat.  Absent a change of Nigeria’s incapacitated government, this is the right action, long overdue.

On behalf of the people of Nigeria, we demand Nigeria, Chad and Cameroon sit down and negotiate the full modalities of any incursion by Chad and/or Cameroonian forces into Nigeria’s territory, and that the urgent agreements reached as sanctioned exigently by the African union.

MEND Denies Issuing Threat against Anti-Buhari Militants, Says its Handwork of Govt and PDP Paid Agents

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), has denied issuing threat on militant from the Niger Delta region who are opposed to the candidacy of the presidential flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC)n General Muhammadu Buhari, for the 2015 general election.

The group in a statement by its spokesperson, Jomo Gbomo, described the statement published in Thisday Newspapers as a false and fabricated statement.

Gbomo said the said publication if one of such attempt aimed at discrediting the group since it’s endorsement of Buhari for president.

The full statement by the group reads.

he Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) wishes to dissociate itself from a recent publication in Thisdaynews on Friday, 16 January 2015 , titled: MEND Issues Ultimatum to Anti-Buhari Ex-Militants. This so-called “ultimatum and threat did not emanate from MEND and we wish to strongly advise the public and the media to disregard this false and fabricated statement.

Since our statement of endorsement of the All Progressive Congress ( APC ) Presidential candidate, General Mohammadu Buhari, several attempts have been made to discredit our group and statements by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and some paid agents of the government.

The “Ex-Generals” mentioned in the false and fabricated statement in the Thisdaynews publication is inconsequential to MEND, but it gives an insight into how a group of thugs are being used for political purposes hence the need for the Media and the general public to be aware.

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) feels very disappointed that a credible Media outlet like Thisdaynews, failed to display professionalism by verifying the authenticity of a statement before publication.

For our Freedom and Yours
Jomo Gbomo

APC Congratulates Jonathan Over Maiduguri Visit, Says President Has More Trips to Make

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan for finally finding the courage to visit Maiduguri to pep up the gallant troops battling the Boko Haram insurgency, but said the President has more trips to make to Chibok, Buni Yadi and Potiskum, among others.

In a statement issued in Makurdi on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the President should follow up his visit to the epi-centre of the Boko Haram battle with visits to the parents of the 219 missing Chibok girls as well as the families of the boys who were killed at the Federal Government College in Buni Yadi, Yobe State, last year.

It said it is only by doing so that the President can begin to refute the published report that his visit to Maiduguri on Thursday was politically motivated, aimed at laying the foundation for his impending electioneering campaign swing across the north, especially to Maiduguri on Jan. 21st.

”We have always said the President and the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces should never be afraid to visit anywhere in the country. We have always said the President should not just be the Commander-in-Chief but also the Consoler-in-Chief. We are glad that the President has finally agreed with us.

”But it is necessary to remind the President that he must not play politics with human lives, and that he must stop putting Jonathan first, Jonathan second and Jonathan third, at the expense of the nation,” APC said.

The party said now that the President has woken up from his slumber, he should also address the issue of the low morale of the troops and their lack of the necessary fighting equipment, if they are to effectively battle the terrorists who have killed and maimed thousands of innocent citizens.

”It is instructive that a few hours after President Jonathan visited Maiduguri, the global news channel CNN aired an interview with some Nigerian soldiers who complained of very low morale among the rank and file, lack of fighting equipment and very poor welfare. Another blamed the terrible situation being faced by the troops on massive corruption.

”This does no credit to an Administration that has allocated billions of naira to the defence and security sector, billions that apparently did not percolate to those at the front line of the battle. It calls to question the usage to which the government has put the huge funds allocated to the sector, including the 1-billion-dollar loan that was recently approved by the National Assembly,” it said.

APC called on the National Assembly to probe how the billions of naira that have been appropriated for defence and security have been spent.

Between @Obyezeks and @GenOlukolade and Issues of National Importance By Mubarak Tijani

Relevant information are taken seriously irrespective of where its coming from, all that’s important is will the same be beneficial to all.

This particular sentence was my tweet @obyezeks and @GenOlukolade when the duo engaged in rather fierce, well informed but one sided tweet chat on twitter on the 15th of January 2015. This day marks the annual armed forces remembrance day, and as usual Nigerians across all facet of life and on social media showered their unending support and love towards the Nigerian security agent and prayed for our fallen heroes who have fought for the continuous togetherness of this nation as one indivisible and indissoluble sovereign state.

As we all remember our fallen heroes in our own respective ways those of us on the social media site like twitter are not left as thousands of us eulogize the efforts of our fallen heroes who have laid their lives despite the inadequacies in the provision of requisite weapons and artillery for our soldiers to combat the continuous attack on our dear nation by the deadly book haram sect. As the commendation and tributes were tweeted and retweeted by proud Nigerians who have felt the impact of our fallen heroes, @Obyezeks tweeted @DefenceInfoNG, @HQNigerianArmy and @GenOlukolade stating the following that please escalate support for our compatriots in BIU. They are shouting out to ALL OF US, she further tweets that Are YOU aware of the outcry from residents of BIU? Voices from BIU say they are under ATTACK.

READ: Defence Spokesman @GENOlukolade Launches Twitter Attacks on @Obyezeks for Providing Info on Boko Haram in Biu

This armless and informed tweet sparks up lots of different opinion as @GenOlukolade who happens to be the defense spokes person tweets that @obyezeks should stop creating unnecessary fears in the country because as privileged citizens she knows how she can get in touch with the necessary authorities.

Nigeria as a country must start to realize the fact that issues of National importance are not to be joked with. The Nigerian military before now have been adjudged one of the best in combat on land as it has helped in single handedly repelling attacks and fought both internal and external aggression in neighboring African countries and have proven her worth in several United Nation peace keep missions. What baffles millions of Nigerians and @obyezeks inclusive is why the said adjudged most successful combats or combatant on land will be unable to fight and successfully overcome the recent challenges faced by her. Many have queried how trillions of naira voted for security had been spent and what has been the outcome of various security tips that many Nigerians had volunteered in repelling the attack of the monstrous beings called book haram and whether they have been able to make effective use of intelligence gathered to combat the insurgent.

The plight of individuals and @obyezeks have been how do we trust a government that failed to believe the abduction of the chibok girls at first and the same government that lied about the rescue of the chibok girls or a government that has failed woefully in discharging her primary responsibility of protecting the lives and properties of all Nigerians irrespective of status, and or affiliations. The tweet of madam @obyezeks was to inform the Nigerian security agent of the ongoing attack in BIU and the responsibility of a well informed security outfit is to respond mildly rather than engaging in tweet fight.

The responsibility of the of government irrespective of the tier or arm, agency and parastatal is to work towards national integration and securing a well managed economy that will enhance the livelihood of her citizenry. Securing the lives and property of every individual is the main object of every responsible government; in same vein the citizens also owe it to his or her nation to make available any useful information and or tips that will enable any organ of government function effectively in other to benefit all citizens alike. The tweet of madam @obyezeks is part of rendering services she owe as a responsible, responsive and alert citizen of this country.

Advancing the course of this great nation of ours becomes the responsibility of every individual irrespective of status, religion and ethnic affiliations. Issues of National importance should not be treated with sentiments but must be treated and tacked objectively.
