APC National Publicity Secretary: We Didn’t Lose, We Won – Abu Sidiq
An aspirant for the position of the National Publicity Secretary in the just concluded National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abubakar Sidiq usman has released a statement saying that despite coming second in the race, it was a victory for him and his team.
Abu Sidiq as he is fondly called used the opportunity of the statement to thank notable individuals and organisation for believing and contributing to his success at the election.
The statement reads in full.
We Didn’t Lose, We Won
Earlier today, the Chairman of the committee for the 2018 National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) announced the results of the elections which kicked off yesterday. While the winner scored 2002 votes, I scored 243 votes and the two other contestants scored 148 and 56 votes respectively. The result of the election effectively means that we came second behind the winner of the contest. Let me use this opportunity to congratulate Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi for winning the election and retaining the seat.
Although, we didn’t win, coming second in a contest that had political heavy weights is for us nothing but victory. When I declared my intention to run for the office of National Publicity Secretary of the party three months ago, many saw it as a pipe dream, a wishful thinking and a quest that will soon fizzle out soon. Without the resources synonymous with the kind of politics we play in this clime, without the backing of a god father, without an established structure and what have you, we still came second. I am convinced beyond reasonable doubt that we put up a good fight, even when most thought we are worth nothing. Being our first time, we went out campaigning like our lives depended on it and here we are with the result. It is my belief that given a second opportunity, we will do better, having gained some experience in this pursuit. I hope that these feat we have achieved will spur many others, especially the young generation into action, believing that you can achieve whatever you set to achieve.
It is on this note that I wish to express my immense gratitude to everyone who have in no small measure contributed to our aspiration for the position of the National Publicity Secretary of APC. The support, advice and encouragement I received from the very first day I indicated interest for this position has been overwhelmingly. It a demonstration of the love and believe in my capacity.
I want to specifically thank the Director General of my campaign organisation, Engineer Aliyu Audu and other members of the campaign team. From Architect Bala Haruna Yahaya to Ikeoluwa Senbanjo, Barrister Sunusi Musa and all others. The immeasurable commitment both in terms of finance, time, energy and other resources you put into this project is deeply appreciated.
I want to specially thank Honourable Farouk Adamu Aliyu, whose contribution to this feat of ours cannot be quantified. Words cannot qualify how much of a leader he is, not just to me but to many other persons I have seen associating with him. In him is a mentor and a role model every young and aspiring Nigerians should look up to. Though, not deliberate, he was one of the last people I told about my intention to contest the National Publicity Secretary position, but I can proudly say that he is the one that stood for me the most. Within hours of discussing my aspiration with him, he sprang into action and his efforts resulted to so many things that gave me this much. His words of advice and encouragement are also a part of what I benefitted from. For that, I shall forever remain grateful and loyal to him.
I also want to thank the Senior Special Assistant to the President on media and publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the leadership and members of the Buhari Media Organisation and some other notable groups for their immense support. My message of appreciation also extends to members of my immediate and extended family as well as my friends and associates from far and wide who stood with me in prayers. God will reward you abundantly for all your efforts.
Also worthy of mention are members of the All Progressives Youth Forum (APYF) and the APC Young Stakeholders whose support made all the difference and gave me the energy to run the race to the last line. Thank you Barrister Ismael Ahmed. Thank you my dependable and indefatigable chairman of APYF, Ifeoluwa Adebayo, for your support and constant words of encouragement. I will not forget to mention Barrister Obi Mac Oscar and Zahra Danejo, Akeem Olapade, Dominic Alancha for pulling the strings where necessary..
While time and space will not permit me to mention every single name that has contributed to my success, I will not forget to thank the Attorney General and Honourable Commissioner for Justice in Osun State, Dr Ajibola Basiru, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor of Niger state on ICT, Mallam Abdulbergy Ebbo, the Coordinator and Secretary of the Nigeria Consolidation Ambassadors Network (NCAN) in Kogi State, Shehu Yahaya and Williams Oluwatoyin respectively and others too numerous to mention. I acknowledge and appreciate your tremendous support. God alone shall repay you.
Deliberately reserving this part for the last, I want to say that the Chief of Staff to the governor of Kogi State, Chief Edward Onoja is a true leader with a big heart. Someday, I will tell the story behind the reason for saying this so that others can learn and see why it is important to have a heart as pure as gold. Thank you Chief. I’m loyal.
Once again, I thank you all for your immense and tremendous support. It has been a huge honour and privilege.
Abubakar Sidiq Usman (Abu Sidiq),
Aspirant, National Publicity Secretary,
All Progressives Congress ( APC).
