APC Leaders Are Master Poachers, PDP Chairman Muazu Admits…Says We’ll Learn From Them
National Chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Adamu Muazu has described leaders of the opposition mega party, All Progressives Congress, APC as master poachers from whom his leadership of the PDP will have to learn the trick.
The PDP boss made the remark yesterday against the backdrop of last November’s defection of five PDP governors to the APC. He spoke when the Akwa-Ibom state governor, Godswill Akpabio led a delegation of party chieftains from his state on solidarity visit to the national secretariat of the ruling but fractured party.
Apart from the five governors that defected to APC, about 37 PDP members in the House of Representatives had equally dumped the ruling party while 18 Senators had equally served the Senate President their notice of defection from PDP to APC.
Expressing concern over the tight situation the trend has put the ruling party, Muazu vowed that the party national working committee under him would outsmart the APC in the art of poaching in its bid regain lost grounds.
According to him: “We appeal to you the Akwa Ibom delegation to support and encourage the national leadership in its drive to reposition the party and succeed at this important trying period. I assure you with your collaborative efforts and partnership, we will regain all our lost grounds and move forward.
“We will soon show to the opposition they are master poachers, they know how to poach, but we are going to beat them to it, because when two members of your family fight, you should settle them and not for you to come and pitch one against the other. However if that is the game, we will learn.
“There shall be a Committee for manifesto review, after the party primaries. It is only by so doing that we can be seen to be truly sensitive to the needs of our people. The world is dynamic; that’s the only way to move forward.”
While expressing confidence in the ability of Muazu to bring the party out of the woods, Governor Akpabio said: ”We have no fear that this working committee will deliver in 2015.I assure Mr. President that Akwa Ibom will do it again. We were the first set in 2010 to announce that we will support him to go for first tenure in 2011, we did that and other states followed. We are again the first state in 2014 to urge Mr. President to go back for a second term in office.
” We believe strongly that the transformation agenda that he has put in place in Nigeria, in power sector, in agriculture sector and other sectors will deliver good dividends of democracy to Nigerians and will lead this country to higher level and that is why Akwa Ibom took the lead.
“We will be the first to also come with INEC result to you; we will make sure that we will position a plane, once INEC announce the result we will give you to hand over to Mr. President. And if they do the primaries in Akwa Ibom state, will give you to hand over to Mr. President 100 percent of delegates votes. I said it in 2011, we were going to give Mr. President 100 percent and we did it. We are a monolithic group. Yes, you may have one or two people who want to test the political waters here and there.”
