APC Finally At Peace In Nigerians’ Interest By Abdulrahman Kayode Abdullahi
The NEC of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress met today for the first time, following the critical situation in which the ruling party found itself on account of political dominance, game of wit and office sharing interest among its encompassed parties and leaders after the March 28 Presidential and National Assembly polls. Most Chiefly of the crises was the outcome of 8th National Assembly’s presiding officers’ election which were against the party’s choices.
The NEC meeting which had in attendance President Muhammadu Buhari, Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, the party’s National Working Committee led by its Chairman, Chief John Oyegun, all APC serving Governors and other NEC members was full of frank speeches and reconciliatory dialogues today.
With such peaceful meeting today, the message we all should be preaching as Nigerians, regardless of political party affiliation is for everyone to accept what has happened, put the past behind us and stay focused on nation building. It was supremely enriching today, hearing our selfless and incorruptible President, General Muhammadu Buhari during the meeting, saying sacrifices should be made by both party and National Assembly leaders respectively in order for APC to move on in the interest of the people.
Incontestably, the leadership of the National Assembly at the respective chambers have hit the ground running by setting their legislative agenda. I am also very confident that the long awaited change has come as the Chairman of National Assembly, Dr. Saraki already set up committee to reduce the salaries and allowances of the legislators and their aides and the pleasing reports are being heard of the process as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, yesterday told the reporters that there is definitely a clear reduction from the 150 billion naira annual Allocation of the National Assembly to 120 billion. Also, the President Buhari has been identifying strategies towards revamping Nigeria’s lost glory and make living in Nigeria the better for her citizenry.
Now that APC is finally at peace, National Assembly is completely independent and President Buhari is convincingly leading the party, Nigeria should start experiencing the change for which they sought in the general elections. In my own humble opinion as a peace Ambassador among Nigerian youths, this should signify the end of the crisis in APC and the beginning of good governance in the hands of APC and President Muhammadu Buhari.
