The Anointed Candidate of Governor Kwankwaso By Fahad Ibrahim Danladi
The permutations and combination for 2015 general election have just begun, with increasing tension in the political atmosphere on daily basis. Politicians, especially contestants are busy aligning themselves with those at the corridors of power or their so called god fathers, in a bid to secure the ticket of political parties. Ordinarily, delegates are suppose to select the best candidate during party primaries, but in reality, this is not obtainable because most of them vote for candidates that present the highest amount of bribe or whose god father have a strong influence on them. In general, most of the delegates do not realize the importance of the mandate bestowed on them, instead they made it an avenue to enrich themselves with money that will not even last for a month, whereas, the negative impact of their questionable behavior will be felt by all. I am of the opinion that delegates are not reliable and at the same time, they discourage clean internal democracy.
In 2010 for instance, governor Kwankwaso gave free hand to party delegates to select leaders in all positions but most of the delegates vote along money lines. During the primaries, a former vibrant speaker of the national assembly was defeated by inexperienced candidate because the later spread the face of the delegates with money. Many competent aspirants lost primaries to the rich and we are now paying the price. Therefore, am calling on Governor Kwankwaso not to repeat his previous mistake of allowing party delegates to choose a leader for us.
Those at the corridors of power preferred to anoint a candidate that is either the best option or one that will continue to loot and siphon public treasury, thence accumulating more money to their Ogas at the top. Unlike other power echelon, Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano state is a patriotic leader whose interest now is believed to have seen a candidate that will continue his real transformation of Kano in to a world class city and a preferred destination for investors.
In the last three years or so, Kano state witnessed vigorous and spontaneous progress in all areas of human endeavors, ranging from infrastructural to human development. Kwankwaso’s administration touched the nook and cranny of his state with various capital projects. Apart from massive investment in the state infrastructure, he introduced policies and programs aimed at improving the system of governance and welfares of citizens. His transparent nature of governance through publication of weekly state executive council meeting in both print and social media attracted lots of commendations from various quarters. Recently, I was made to understand that his administration has commenced electronic payment of all government expenses which allowed the state ministry of finance to monitor and approved all transactions of ministries, departments and agencies across the state.
I can confidently and categorically state that in the present Nigeria, there is no leader of whatsoever extraction that truly and genuinely love ordinary citizens like Governor Kwankwaso. ‘Wallahi’ Kwankwaso love his people more than a word can say and he is more than ready to make sacrifice for them. Sometimes, he initiates programs that do not go down well with either the civil servants or the political appointees because only the common man will benefit from such project. In the past, only children of top ranking government officials benefit from foreign scholarship in the state but Kwankwaso set record by encouraging merit above political affiliation and Alhamdulillah, children of ‘Talakawa’ (masses) have either completed their studies abroad or currently in various countries across the globe for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
I heard and read about many honest and patriotic Nigerians but I have never come across sincere and devoted Nigerian leader like Governor Kwankwaso. I am of the opinion that Governor Kwankwaso is the best person to select his predecessor considering his giant stride in all square of life and also due to the fact that he works and associate with most of the ‘potential governors’ more than all the so called delegates.
