An Angel In Disguise: How Alhaji @Atiku Abubakar Saved My Life – Zaharadin Balarabe
My name is Zaharaddeen Balarabe and I am a proud beneficiary of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s generosity. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar paid for my heart surgery without asking who I am, without an application, without even setting his eyes on me or my picture, without asking me to open a file, without asking me to get a photocopy of my entire hospital folder, without asking for my indigiene certificate, without any questions, without any strings attached. He did it like he was paying for his own son’s surgery, what a special being he is. Ya Allah Grant Him What Is Best For Him, and Make Him Among The Dwellers Of Firdaus.
When I read Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s book (MY LIFE), it didn’t just motivated me to seek for his help, it also motivated me to be stronger. I have downloaded the book and it has been on my phone for a while, before I decided to read it on a particular morning. I read it cover to cover without getting up from the position I started reading it, and it was the best decision I ever made, Alhamdulillah! I was able to understand the hurdles he had to jump and how that made him an amazing human. If I live to be half as great as he is, it would be a blessing.
After I sent Atiku Abubakar the tweet on May 25th, 2014, I didn’t get an immediate feedback even though the tweet became popular and had earned me a lot of really supportive tweeps. A tweep @SevenOneSixX insisted that I write my story, I was very hesitant at first. But writing that story became a really positive decision, because I recieved calls and messages from all over.
After the story was posted on the 4th of june, using a platform (abusidiqu.com) provided by a blogger @abusidiqu. Some really important calls started coming in, on that day Bashir Yusuf @Bashiryusuf contacted me and requested for some documents, which I immediately sent him. I was very happy with the way people related to my story and the response I was getting.
I was receiving a lot of calls and (@SevenOneSixX) was actively engaging the social media for the positive purpose it was meant to serve. Her avatar, display picture and personal messages were all soliciting support for me. My twitter family were passionately tweeting and retweeting, and praying. I became a celebrity over night! My twitter mentors @dawisu and @yadomah also made sure my story had the audience it deserved.
On June 8th, four days after the story was posted, @dawisu called me and told me that he has spoken to someone close to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and that he has approved the release of the funds for my surgery. I was like “Allah yasa da gaske ne”. I prayed and prayed!
The next morning I received a call from a gentleman who called himself Abdullahi, he said he was calling for Atiku Abubakar and he mentioned that I was given a certain amount of money. The money should cover all expenses, hotel bills, transportation and medical bills. He asked me to provide him with an account number, but because I felt the best person to provide him with that detail is @SevenOneSixX so I asked him to contact her for it. I gave him her phone number and gave her his, she sent him my sister’s account number and 20mins later a text came in, the text that will In Shaa Allah help in giving me a better life.

You shall be greater than you are today, May Allah SWT in His infinite Mercy Guide, Bless, Protect and Support You And Yours. May He Grant You Homes In Aljannah Firdaus. May You Be Among The People He’ll say “Come And Enter Firdaus” to.
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar paid for my Surgery, @abusidiqu provided the platform that made my voice to be heard, but @SevenOneSixX made it happen. She dedicated TWO WEEKS of her life fighting the battle with me, to the world she’s @SevenOneSixX but to me she’s a heroine, A friend we can only hope to be like. I wish her nothing but the best. May Allah Grant Her Jannah.
And to the people that tweeted and RT-ed the people that called and made calls asking for favors on my behalf, I lack words to thank you. I lack gifts to send to you, but know that you’re in my prayers and thoughts everyday. May Allahu SWT reward you all.
Thank You once again for reading my story. I’m glad it’s a happy one this time around. Thank You. And I hope you’ll enjoy the poem my baby sister Amina Balarabe wrote. God Bless Us Allah
Shedding tears of sadness
with hearts no happiness
is the way we look at our brother
who keeps telling us not to bother
But why? we must bother!
because he is our brother
His heart was being eaten away by pain
but he tried to survive come shine come rain
The doctor said he needed a surgery
but we can’t forgery
and we cant afford the surgery
We looked for help everywhere
but couldn’t find it anywhere
We prayed prayed and prayed
asking for God’s aid
Then came a man distinguished for his matchless frankness
a man with the heart of gold
A relentless philantropist
Who brought a cleanser to wipe clean our sadness
and filled our hearts with happiness
He is paying for my brother’s surgery!
I danced at the joy of the news
not bothering to hear anyone’s views
My eyes moistened and brightened
There were tears
not of sadness or grief
but of pure joy
My joy knew no bounds
The way i felt
was how a caravan would feel
at the sight of a well
after days of thirst
how a new mother would feel
at the sight of her cute new born baby
OH ALLAH! I always pray
bless this man through every way
He put a smile on our faces
guard him Lord in all places.
