The recent video released by the leader of Jama’atu Ahlul Sunna Lidda’awati Wal Jahad on November 9, 2014 – which shows the leader of the group preaching in a Friday congregational prayer is most surprising. Imam Abubakar Shekau, who was said to have been killed twice by the Nigerian Military and one time by the Cameroonian military shows that Imam Shekau is a man with nine lives.
In the 24 minute sermon of the leader of the sect, Imam Abubakar Shekau dismissed the claim that there was a truce agreement between them and the Nigerian government. Imam Shekau also salute his “brethren in Syria (ISIS), Somalia (Alshaba) and all other Mujahidun from around the world.
The appearance of the leader of the sect shows how determined they are to their cause. Unlike in his previous videos where he is shown wearing military fatigues, he was wearing a civilian Babbar Riga, a Kube cap and a Turban.
Dialogue remains the only answer with Jama’atu Ahlus Sunna Lidda’awati Wal Jahad. Imam Shekau the leader of the sect said “if Allah will for me to die today, I will die today”.
The fearless nature of the leaders of the sect, their morale and their resolute nature is far more than that of the Nigerian military. The commander in chief of the armed forces of Nigerian is busy with his scheduled Presidential declaration on 11 November, as such, cannot find time – as he has never, to go to the battle field and eulogize, support and boost the morale of his soldiers.
The government should enter into a genuine truce with Jama’ati Ahlus Suanna Lidda’a Wati Wal Jihad now. That is imperative to lasting peace and public security.
