Ambode’s Commissioners, Business Associates Hijack APC’s NWC Panel
The National Working Committee panel of the All Progressives Congress (APC) sent to conduct the governorship primary election in Lagos State has been hijacked by the inner circle of Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode preventing its members from monitoring the party’s governorship primary that held on Tuesday.
As many as eight commissioners and four aides of the governor, supported by his business associates hemmed the NWC members in at Protea Hotel Alausa Ikeja while effectively preventing then from monitoring party members vote across the state as planned.
The posse of Ambode’s men later pressured the Clement Ebri led committee to announce an annulment of the primary contested by Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Governor Ambode.
The party headquarters has however denied cancelling the election as earlier reported.
A source close to the NWC panel said “it was not possible for the members to shake off the enforcers attached to them by Ambode.
“They (NWC panel members) had personal audience with his Excellency when they got to Lagos. Certain things were agreed so Ambode’s men must have been assigned to them to ensure they keep to the agreed plans,” the source said.
The Lagos State APC primary which is a straight battle between incumbent Lagos governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, and Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who has the support of majority of the APC leaders commenced across the state on Tuesday morning.
