Again, Oga at the Top Stalls INEC’s Declaration of Oguta Re-Run Election Result
…Gov. Okorocha Call On INEC To Declare APGA Candidate Winner
It is becoming clearer that the Oguta House of Assembly re-run election has been won and lost but the declaration of result by INEC ran into hitch when Oga at the top called in for whatever pecuniary interest his party may have had to protect in that election.
Governor Okorocha, earlier today addressed a press conference where he decried the miscarriage of justice by the ruling party through the arm twisting of the INEC Commissioner, Dr. Oko who could not continue with the announcement of the result at the reception of a call of the Oga at the top. However, Governor Okorocha recalled the same experience he had during the Guber election where the announcement of Election was stalled as well for a call by one Oga at the top.
The election in Oguta witnessed the presence of the PDP Abuja based politicians guarded by heavily armed men harassing and violating Oguta people’s rights thereby disenfranchising them from exercising their right to vote their choice leaders. To make real their threat to win at all cost, the former Speaker of House of Assembly under Ikedi Ohakim, Goodluck Opia, in a show of shame, went to the Local Governments with his barrage of thugs, seeming uniformed men whether real or unreal either to hijack the materials and also cause disaffection against the people of Oguta. He failed due to the determination of a people who were ready to change their sordid past of slavery to freedom. Again the same man appeared in Osemotor ward but the people resisted them.
It could also be recalled that prior the election, one of the editions of Sunday Independent had reported the plan of the ruling party to flood Oguta with ex militants and Boko Haram insurgents. It came out that Opia was the leader of the group prepared to unleash mayhem in Oguta. Again, in Izombe, one of the APGA agents was locked up in his house and was guarded with heavy armed men who threatened him to remain indoors while they PDP had the field day. These were the confirmation of the alarmed raised by APGA. Hope Uzodinma had also threatened fire and brimstone but again the people’s wish in their Will prevailed.
Governor Okorocha again said that had APGA scored like PDP with two thousand deficit, the winner would have been returned without much ado. He however revealed that the APGA candidate must be declared winner in the sense that out of 209 polling booths, only 8 were cancelled. And going by the number of electorate that turned out, it follows that the percentage of the expected electorate in the remaining wards will be infinitesimal. Meanwhile Governor Okorocha argued, now that the result had been written, signed and announced by the returning officer of the constituency, where would INEC now add their so called result that will come out from the expected supplementary being canvassed. He further expressed irritation for PDP’s penchant for doing the abnormal with intention of rigging themselves in.
It is also on record that this will be the fourth election that had taken place in Oguta in this tenure. Oguta was used to declaration of result without election but the people have decided to change the tide for the better. It will be recalled that the Traducers of Oguta never campaigned and never printed any poster but would come and shoot guns and thumb print ballot papers and result will be declared. This shows the level of awareness since the emergence of Owelle Rochas Okorocha as the Governor of IMO State.
The question on everybody’s lips is will the people of Oguta continue to stay without a representative in the House for selfish and political ego of people claiming to be political Irokos when they cannot even claim loyalty from their family members for their injustice and impunity.
The prologue of Oguta drama has APGA polling 9584 votes against PDP’s 7, 583 with impunity, one wonders what the epilogue brings forth, which will either tarnish the little integrity remaineth of INEC and their runners.
