After APC Governors’ Riducule, President Jonathan Finally Decides to Visit Maiduguri
After governors of the opposition All Progressive Congress, APC broke the myth that seems to have surrounded President Goodluck Jonathan’s refusal to visit Maiduguri since the Boko Haram insurgency reared its ugly head in northern Nigeria, a move that ostensibly ridiculed the president and the presidency, President Jonathan has finally decided to visit the state to show his courage too.
The APC governors visited Maiduguri on Thrusday where they held the 3rd meeting of the group since the announcement of the merger at the Borno state government house, visited the popular Maiduguri market where evidence of Boko Haram’s violence is clearly visible and subsequently made a donation of N100 million each to Borno and Yobe state which seems to be the heaviest casualty of Boko Haram’s violence.
Reacting to Thursday’s visit of governors of the newly formed All Progressives Congress where Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola made a veiled reference to Jonathan as lacking in courage, compassion and decisiveness, Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Ahmed Gulak said “The governors are just trying to pre-empt the President. Goodluck Jonathan is not afraid of visiting any part of the country. He is the President of all states and all parts of the country without exception.”
“Who is afraid to visit Borno State? The President will be on a state visit to Borno State next week, March 7 to be precise, the presidential aide said
What do you think about this face saving visit? What has the president been waiting for all the while?
