Controversial African Peoples’ Congress, APC Launched in Abuja…Man Behind the Party Unveiled
The African Peoples’ Congress, the new political party whose application with INEC by its legal representative, Legal World Chambers has been dogged with controversy has been unveiled at a ceremony in Abuja.
The Public Unveiling ceremony which was held alongside the commissioning of Party Secretariat was held at its headquarters located at LEADERSHIP House, Plot 983 Ahmadu Bello Way Opposite Apo Quarters, Garki Abuja.
Besides the launch of the party and its national headquarters, the man behind the party that has been dogged in secrecy was also made known as Chief (Hon.) Onyinye. M ikeagwuonu (JP), was introduced as the Protem National Chairman.
Chief Ikeagwuonu, who delivered a speech entitled “Breaking the Axis of Evil.” lambasted the country’s major political parties, including the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for having failed Nigerians.
According to him “For over a decade now, Nigerians have entrusted their political fortunes largely in the hands of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), All Nigerian People’s Party (ANPP), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and other politicians who have shown a resounding emptiness of character, clearly unfit for any kind of leadership,”. The APC chief spoke of his party’s determination to capture power and use it for the common good.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), disclosed that a set of politicians had earlier applied for the registration of the African Peoples’ Congress, which bears the same APC acronym with the opposition All Progressive Congress, but officials of the merging party accused INEC of bare faced lies and manipulation to deny it registration and alleged that the entire exercise is a plot by the ruling PDP in connivance with INEC.
It is not entirely clear if the public launch of the African Peoples’ Congress has signaled that stakeholders of the emergent mega opposition party, All Progressives Congress (APC), would have to choose another name, especially as there are other conditions that must be fulfilled by the party, which the merging opposition party has said the new APC did not fulfill while applying to INEC for registration.
