Adamawa Acting Governor Fintiri is a Member of APC, Group Petitions PDP
A group in Adamawa State, Concerned Youths for Good Governance has written a petition to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the screening of aspirants for the governorship by-election in the state, alleging that the acting governor of Adamawa State, Umaru Fintiri is still a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC.
The petition by the group which was signed by its chairman, Ahmed Ya’uba, and filed to the national leadership of PDP and the screening committee is therefore asking it to disqualify the acting governor because he has not withdrawn his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The petition titled, “The illegality of the aspiration of the Adamawa State acting governor, Ahmadu Umaru under the umbrella of the PDP” also claimed that the acting governor has not been granted waiver to participate in the by-election because like many other officials of the last administration of the state, he had decamped from PDP and subscribed to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
But in a swift reaction, the acting governor said he had never been an APC member, describing the whole idea of the petition as ridiculous and completely untenable.
The chief press secretary to the governor, Solomon Kumangar, further dismissed the petition as spurious and without substance because it is the handiwork of those afraid that the acting governors firm stand between the sponsors of the petition and the party’s ticket.
But the group according to the petition, said, “We write to draw the attention of the screening committee and other organs of the party’s leadership to the imminent swindling of the party by the acting governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who is legally not qualified to vie for the governorship, or any other position for that matter, being a returnee who has not been granted a waiver. Umaru had actually registered with the APC during its membership drive in February in Madagali LGA.”
