Abuja High Court Declare President Jonathan ‘Elegible’ to Contest in 2015
The court while delivering judgment on a suit filed by a presidential aspirant from within the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Cyriacus Njoku who asked the court to declare President Jonathan ineligible to further contest the presidential election on the basis that under the Nigerian constitution, he could not take the oath of office of the president three times dismissed the claim, ruling that the constitution allowed the president two terms in office.
President Jonathan has taken the oath twice: First following the illness and eventual death of then President Umaru Yar’Adua in 2010 for whom he served as deputy and again after he was elected as president in 2011.
Though Mr. Jonathan has not declared his intention to run, his supporters are already asking him to.
