ABU Alumni Awards Ganduje For Outstanding Performances
Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, accorded Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state with Merit Award 2018, for his outstanding performance in the areas of infrastructural development, improved health sector reform, overhaul of the education sector amongst others.
Presenting the Award to the governor, yesterday, during the state executive council meeting, the Deputy Governor Prof. Hafizu Abubakar, who represented the governor, during the Award Dinner event which was held in Abuja, said “Your Excellency the organisers of the Award appreciate your efforts in making Kano state a modern political entity in all sectors.”
Abubakar with a happy and smiling face reveals that, “During the presentation of this Merit Award Your Excellency, it was clearly evident on the faces of the organisers that when your name was mentioned as a recipient of the Award, that they believe in this choice as a governor whose priorities are correctly placed for the overall development of his state.”
“Because of the giant strides in all sectors of the state, as well as your belief in transparency and accountability in governance, your name rang bell when I stood up to receive the Award on your behalf Sir,” Deputy Governor transmits.
According to him, Ganduje was one of the few carefully selected Alumni that were awarded at the event, emphasising that, “Looking at the success stories under your administration, Your Excellency, many Alumni accept that yours is well deserving and the cap is put where it fits, also.”
While organisers appreciated governor’s continued contribution for the development of the university, they also believe that, his intervention in many areas of concern in the university encourages many Alumni along that line.
In his acceptance remarks, Governor Ganduje shows his appreciation for the award after commending the Deputy Governor for good representation, adding that, “Any Award from this prestigious university is indeed a serious Award. That is why you are spotting happiness all over me.”
Reminding his schools days as undergraduate student in ABU from 1972 to 1975, Ganduje said, since then the university has been a national university, adding that, “I went back to obtain my Masters Degree from 1984 to 1985. The university is still doing very well in all facets of academic excellence.”
“This Award is of course a morale booster to me and all other Alumni of our prestigious university. It is also a morale booster to all of us here, the Kano state government and the people of Kano state,” Ganduje emphasises.
He promised to do more for the development of the state. Assuring that ABU is part and parcel of him, adding that, “…the university is indeed in my blood. So we are inseparable.”
Others that were awarded during the event, were governors of Kebbi and Bauchi states, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Maikanti Baru and Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Bala Usman.
