Abducted Schoolgirls: Femi Falana Blast Patience Jonathan, Others Over Claims
Lagos lawyer Chief Femi Falana (SAN) has chided some top government officials, including the first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, for their high level of insensitivity in doubting that the over 200 schoolgirls abducted from Chibok are actually missing.
He also said the panel of inquiry set up by Mrs Jonathan to investigate the abduction of the school girls should be disbanded immediately because it is unconstitutional as she lacks the power whatsoever to do so.
Falana, in a statement he issued yesterday, wondered whether the claim that no girl was missing from the school was to create the impression that “The Borno State government and the Boko Haram sect conspired with the parents of the missing girls to embarrass the Goodluck Jonathan Administration?
“Why has the federal government accepted the offer of the United States’ government to join in the frivolous -search for the girls since they are no longer missing?” the legal luminary queried, even as he urged President Goodluck Jonathan to “ensure that the abduction of the innocent girls is not further trivialized in the interest of our collective sensibility and public morality”.
The statement reads in part, “Frustrated by the refusal of the wife of the governor of Borno State to turn up at the mock trial the First Lady broke down in tears as the “grandmother” of the abducted girls. To the utter embarrassment of the Nigerian people the First Lady has since declared that no child is missing!
