A Positive Nigeria In 2015 By Awwal Idris
As 2015 draws nearer, Nigerians are becoming tensed up on how the Presidential, Gubernatorial and Legislative seats will be won and lost. It is less than 2 years to the 2015 General Elections and politicians are already showing their ambitions. It is expected of the politicians in offices to concentrate on how to move Nigeria forward but they are busy fighting for 2015 and quarrelling among themselves with reference to the shameful act that happened in Rivers State House of Assembly. What happened in Rivers state house of assembly is an example, a situation where a minute fraction of the house unlawfully impeached the speaker of the house using all sort of violence by exposing their barbaric human nature; a supposed “honorable” member battered his colleague with the mace (Symbol of authority of the legislator). Are these the kind of people we want as our leaders?
Subsequently this is an opportunity for us to know the right thing to do, come 2015. Some of these politicians failed us while on the other hand some of them are doing their best to develop our country. The 2015 elections is a huge task for us and it is also an opportunity for every Nigerian to decide the type of leaders he/she wants. The choice is ours; so we are all seeing what has been happening in the country. This is our chance to vote for the right people on merit not on religious or ethnicity. This is the right time to make Nigeria better; we must all do away with religious politics and ethnicity in order to conquer 2015. We should not allow media or the politicians to control us on whom we deem as the best person for office. We are responsible for helping our country positively.
As Nigerians, We all are one; every one of us should represent Nigeria, not a particular ethnic group or region. We must learn from what happened in the Middle East, these people forgot any sentiments and stood up for their country against a bad government. We must do the same not through revolution but by a democratic transition through justice and accountability, for us to achieve this; we must ensure all politicians that have failed in their duties are not returned to office come 2015.
We should go for positive changes, and the only way to do so is by voting the proper candidates that are willing to serve us, and our nation as a whole. Basically we have been practicing democracy for 14 years and yet there is very little or nothing to show, we have a lot of two-faced, deceitful politicians who are asking for a second chance.
If we continue giving them these second chances we may never witness the Nigeria of our dreams. It is never too late to have hope for a better Nigeria. Let us use our 2015 opportunity to vote for the right people into our political offices. We must vote them out as they fail us.
This is the perfect opportunity for us to vote the right people, religious and tribal sentiments have done gravely harm than good to us. We can achieve our goal if we can make the right changes and choices. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Awwal G Idris
