Is Cross River ‘First Lady’ Obioma Liyel Imoke really dying from Tummy Tuck Surgery?
Last month, paradigmshiftng.com published a story sourced from the National Enquirer Magazine which revealed that the wife of the Cross River State Governor, Obioma Liyel Imoke is dying from complications arising from the tummy tuck surgery she did in India.
Members of the public were furious owing to the fact that our memory is enmeshed in the corruption and wastage that surrounds such superfluous surgery from the wife of an elected public servant.
Cosmetic surgery most especially Abdominoplasty popularly called tummy tuck and its attendant consequences are not a new phenomenon in our environment. Abdominoplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure used to make the abdomen more firm. The surgery involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen in order to tighten the muscle and fascia of the abdominal wall. This type of surgery is usually sought by patients with loose tissues after pregnancy or individuals that are overweight and have flabby body.
Disadvantages of Abdominoplasty
* It is very expensive, ranging between N800,000.00 and N2,500,000.00
* It is highly risky
* Complications may arise during surgery
* Infection and blood clot may occur
* Nerve Damage, Bleeding, Suture rupture are some of the risks involved in Tummy tuck
* Tummy tuck does not correct stretch marks
Recall that on 23rd October, 2005, wife of former President Olusegun Obasanjo died from complications arising from tummy tuck surgery in a Spanish hospital. The doctor involved in the surgery was later tried, found guilty and sentenced accordingly.
Similarly in February 2011, a Nigerian girl Claudia Aderotimi (20) died as a result of complications arising from butt enlargement injections in the United State. What is however surprising and grieves the heart is the fact that despite the needless death that occurs from such overseas shopping of frivolity, our so called big elites still finds pleasure in threading the dangerous path.
Be that as it may, the choice of undergoing a cosmetic surgery is solely that of whoever chooses to do it, but the surprising revelation from the story published by paradigmshiftng.com is the disclosure that the ruling family in Cross River State is ‘very angry’ with the said publication. Truth be told, the National Enquirer may have overstretched the details with the report that she is dying as a result of not heeding to doctors instruction regarding post treatment. Paradigmshiftng.com was able to gather that the First Lady of Cross River state did undergo a cosmetic surgery, but the details as reported by National Enquirer as regards the implantation of tape worm in her body not true.
Well, the story as published by National Enquirer Magazine has since been removed largely due to the efforts of a paid goon you will discover soon and we have also deemed it fit to remove it, but you can read the story from another publisher here.
Mrs. Obioma Liyel Imoke from reports gathered is seen as a goddess in Cross River State. Her pet projects (Partnership Opportunities for Women Empowerment Realisation-POWER, Destiny Childcare Centre, Pink POWER Integrated Cancer Care Initiative- Pink POWER ICCI, Mothers Against Child Abandonment- MACA and lots more) which cater for the less privileged, destitute, vulnerable, orphans, women and children is said to be enormous. No ‘first lady’ before her as done such a great work in Cross River, but the issue at hand is not about the goodness of her heart but the wellness of her body.
Nigerians are now used to being treated with contempt by the wife of those who they elect to serve them. Don’t forget they get allocations to finance their activities, (whether legal or illegal) from tax payers’ money.
The wife of President Goodluck Jonathan had just returned from her surgeon in a German Hospital where she is rumoured to have undergone treatments for undisclosed ailments. While, it is rumoured on one hand that she was treated for food poisoning, others said she was treated for cancer and probably cosmetic surgery complications, but nobody save the president and few presidential aides knows exactly what took her to Germany for 53 days. This is somebody whose treatment was pegged on tax payer’s money, yet they don’t think they owe the Nigerian Tax Payers’ the right to know what was wrong with the First Lady. Save for the sharp ears of the media, the impression they wanted us to live with was that she went to Germany for holiday.
The paid goon we earlier wrote about will be unveiled soon is one Mr. Austyn Ogannah whom we are told is an ‘aide’ to the Governor of Cross River State. Mr Ogannah, the Editor-in-Chief of The Will, an online news media, is one out of many sponsored by government to counter the expository efforts of similar online media platforms like Sahara Reporters and the likes. He was the one who informed us of the First Lady’s displeasure concerning the publication that alleged she is dying from complications of her cosmetic surgery.
We at paradigmshiftng.com wonder why a ‘journalist’, who is supposed to be neutral held brief for the wife of the Cross River State Governor. He had called on a Sunday evening from his US abode, requesting on behalf of Mrs. Obioma Liyel Imoke, that we remove the publication from our medium. He declared, “The governor and his wife are my friends (whatever that means), and they are very mad at you for publishing that story.” He did confirm to me however, that the tummy tuck surgery took place some years back but it actual cost was around $1000-$2000. Investigations however reveal that a tummy tuck surgery in an average Indian hospital as at then cost nothing less than $4000. For her person and caliber, she would rather have such surgery in an upgrade facility which will conservatively add another $1000 to the original cost.
The aim of this report is not to disclaim or counter-claim the amount she sliced up a piece of her body; it’s about principles that are being violated, it’s about a mindset that seems set on a part to perdition.
First of all, Mr Austyn operates an online news medium and according to him, he has at least 15 reporters working for him. The question we should ask ourselves is where does he get funds to operate his news outlets and also hold brief for a ‘First Lady’? Are his services as a ‘press consultant’ or ‘friend to the governor’ free? Don’t be scared, he gave me permission to quote him, stating that “there are better ways we could have written the story” (thinking I probably wrote the story).
Investigations reveal that he is on the payroll of several government officials. We have it on good authority that TheWill like many others were setup to counter the likes of SaharaReporters and this Mr Ogannah confirmed by expressing his hatred for the news medium during our close to 1 hour telephone conversation.
Issues like this should be handled by the press secretary to the party involved and not a party that ought to remain neutral. What Mr Ogannah failed to realise is that paradigmshiftng.com was not the only online media that published the story. The story was carried in at least 50 online media platforms and they still have the publication on their websites.
Suffix to add that the Media Aide to the First Lady, Ms. Marilyn Omogbor has tried her best to assure the citizentry that there is no truth whatsoever in the said publication by churning out half truths (shown through are many press statement on the state run crossriverstate.gov.ng and her comments on online news site).
There are also instances where the First Lady tried to correct the impression of the public by thriving of falsehood. In the Punch newspaper of 20th May 2012, an article reported by one Kemi Ashefon titled “I studied law, gave the certificate to my parents — Obioma Liyel-Imoke”, the Cross River First Lady lied that:
“There was a time I left Nigeria as a size 22. I got abroad and before I knew it, I was a size 24! I had gone to shop and could not fit into size 22 dresses. There and then, I made up my mind to save my life. I went to my doctor and he gave me a dietician. It became an emergency and the dietician placed me on six weeks without food! She recommended protein shakes and in those weeks, I reduced to size 18 from 24! I was also going for classes on my diets. I returned to Nigeria and for two years now, I have not eaten anything that contains oil.
“I eat vegetable without oil. Before, I took four slices of bread but now I take just half of a slice and it has to be wheat bread. I take lots of water whenever I feel light-headed and I eat regularly but in small bits. There are times I get a bit slack and add a kilo or two but I quickly shed off. In fact, I weigh myself every morning.
“I am now a size 12 and I could have gone thinner (I am gunning to be a size 8) but my husband would not hear of that! Really, it is all about a change of lifestyle and knowing what to eat and how to eat in portions. Right now, I am healthier, and I am just maintaining my weight.” read more
Well, investigations reveal that the proclamation by Mrs Obioma in the publication is false and malicious. Paradigmshiftng.com can confirm that she actually had an abdominoplasty contrary to the position adopted by the First lady and her media aide.
We accept the fact that Mrs Obioma was not comfortable with her body mass and had to look for a way out, but that does not justify lying about the method used. She probably made the statement to make financial gain out of it.
We also believe that the above lies do not in any way justify the publication of concocted reports all in a bid to sell magazine.
We stand for the truth and nothing but the truth. Mrs. Obioma runs an upscaled spa and beauty outfit in the heart of Abuja named Spring Paradise located at 927, Zone B05,Ibrahim Haruna Street, Utako, Abuja, Nigeria and probably in a bid to sell her services, she had to go through the surgery to convince her clients. Part of the services offered at Spring Sparadise is ‘Body firming’
She wrote about it on her website thus:
Body firming is particularly effective in treating excess fat around the abdomen and hip areas, and shows good results on leg and arm fat. The fatty deposits are broken down and the energy from the cells is made available to the body. The skin and underlying tissue is also firmed, improving the shape of the client.

This is the social media age, gone are those days when we have to rely on the traditional newspaper to feed us with information, facts are now all around us.
The craze to create an impression has taken over us, we are therefore short of words on why a 50year old woman would want to compete with Rihanna and also lie in her bid to achieve her aim.
On 23rd of October, it will be 7year anniversary of the departure of Mrs. Stella Obasanjo, but apparently we haven’t learnt anything as individuals from that bitter experience as a nation. While writing about “the pressure that killed Stella Obasanjo,” Chika Ezeanya had postulated that “The existing reality in Nigeria today is a radical departure from the ideals subscribed to by the different societies that make up the country today. Pre-colonial Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, Ibibio, Tiv, Nupe, Ijaw and others were communalistic societies where the African Ubuntu philosophy was enthroned. Self-respect, character, values, community ideals and other positive attributes were upheld. Human beings were respected for being human beings, plain and simple.”
The society we live in today is that which enthrones packaging over content, prosperity over principle, progress without process, quantity over quality. We have lost it somewhere, the likes of Mrs. Obioma ought to help bring back those values and not throw it out on the table of some money seeking-artistic-butcher in western hospitals. We want you to take care of your moral fiber as you take care of those homeless and under privileged children in Cross River, it’s essential for Nigeria’s future.
Apparently, Mrs. Obioma Liyel Imoke is not dying as the magazine reported; she is just hiding the tummy tuck surgery she did in plain sight.
We do hope that our dear ‘First Lady’ will stand by what she has done, so we all can move on with our lives rather than using backdoor, salient and abrasive approach through her ‘press consultant’ to intimidate, harass and threaten a specie (online media journalist) we have come to appreciate in the past one year.
