$620,000 Bribe Taker, Farouk Lawan Gets Automatic PDP Ticket for House of Reps

While some of his colleagues in the national assembly are facing an uphill battle to win their party’s ticket to re-contest, Honourable Farouk Lawan who became famous for banking $620,000 bribe he collected from oil mangante, Femi Otedola in his cap has been given an automatic ticket by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to re-contest for his seat at the House of Representatives.

If he gets the ticket and eventually win the election, he will be representing his constituency, Bagwai/Shanono Federal Constituency for the fifth term.

However, more than four youth groups within the Bagwai/Shanono Federal Constituency have condemned the automatic ticket given to Lawan , saying that he has been a lawmaker since 1999 but has not contributed meaningfully to the development of the area.

In a statement signed by the chairman of the Bagwai/Shanono Youth Network for Change, Muttaka Shanono, the groups said: “As party loyalists, we accept all party decisions in good faith. But we are calling on the PDP to allow for the nomination of a fresh candidate to represent the party in 2015 as Farouk had had enough opportunities representing the constituency for the fourth uninterrupted term without positive results. With the case before the court involving the lawmaker, we need to have a change by sending a fresh person to consolidate on the little Farouk has contributed to the constituency.”
