5 Female Suicide Bombers, 1 Civilian JTF Killed In Borno
At least, six persons including a member of Civilian JTF and five suicide bombers were yesterday killed in a bomb attack on a security outpost manned by the youth vigilante in Mafa town, Borno state.
Sources said some female bombers targeting the CJTF had approached a security post manned by the CJTF in Mafa, about 40 kms to Maiduguri, the Borno state capital early today and blew themselves up, killing themselves and one of the youth vigilante.
Northeast Information Officer of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Abdulkair Ibrahim who confirmed the bomb attack in a telephone message said five members of the CJTF were also injured.
“Suicide bombers attack at Mafa check point in the early hours of today (Wednesday) by five female suicide bombers. They targeted the civilian JTF stationed at a check point. Five of the civilian JTF were injured, one died and the five suicide bombers died. All the five casualties are receiving treatment at the Borno Specialist Hospital,” Abdulkadir said.
Mafa, headquarters of Mafa Local Government area, east of Maiduguri, was recently liberated from Boko Haram by the military forces which also released many hostages initially taken by insurgents while they held sway in the small town. Thousands of the residents are now displaced persons being resettled at the newly created Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in the town.
