1- The Origin of the Universe
The following verse states the origin of the universe:
“He is the originator of the heavens and the earth.” ( The Quran 6:101)
Modern science is in full agreement with the above verse as the Big Bang theory proved that the universe came into being from nothingness after a single large explosion.
Before the Big Bang theory, there was no matter, time or anything else, all came into being metaphysically from a condition of “non-existence”, hence the scientific explanation of the fact that the universe came into being from nothing, which points us to the fact that it originated from God.
2- The Expansion of the Universe
The Quran says the following;
“And it is We who have constructed the heaven with might, and verily, it is We who are steadily expanding it.”
(The Qur’an, 51:47)
Science has yet made another recent discovery of a fact stated in the Quran which is that the universe is expanding at a constant rate. In the 20th century, Russian physicist Alexander Friedmann and Belgian cosmologist Georges Lemaitre had experimented theoretically and concluded that the universe is constantly expanding.
3- The Sky as a Protected Roof
Allah mentions an interesting characteristic of the sky in the Quran in the following verse:
“”We made the sky a preserved and protected roof yet still they turn away from Our Signs..”
(The Qur’an, 21:32)
Research carried out in the 20th century reveals that the atmosphere that surrounds the earth is a crucial factor in sustaining life. Many big and small meteors are destroyed before they reach the earth as they are a disaster for life on earth.
Additionally, the same atmosphere is responsible for filtering light rays and letting through only harmless ones such as ultraviolet light pass through as they are important for nourishing life on earth.
This discovery verifies the fact mentioned in the Quran justifying the sky as a protective canopy.
4- The Existence of Orbits
The Quran mentions the sun and the Moon as definite orbits in the verses below:
“It is He Who created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. They swim along, each in an orbit. ”
(The Qur’an, 21:33)
The above fact mentioned in the Qur’an fourteen centuries ago has been verified by astronomers of our time who have discovered the speed of the sun as 720,000 kilometers per hour and also that the universe is full of paths and orbits as further mentioned in the verse below:
“By the sky full of paths and orbits.”
(The Qur’an, 51:7)
