21 National Assembly probes in 4 years, where are the results?
Since 2008 till date, there has been a total of twenty-one major National Assembly probes. That comes down to at least one probe every quarter. Usually, the life cycle of a probe is as follows:
Confrontation stage (where senators or honourables voice their great displeasure over a matter).
Committee stage (where a committee is set up to probe the matter).
Circus stage (where a public hearing is conducted amidst lots of “revelations” and “hot air”).
Controversy stage (where the report is either diluted, a source of disunity among committee members, or in the odd case where it sees the light of the day—like the recent Farouk Lawan committee report—the members become smeared in controversy.)
