2015: Speaker Tambuwal Set to Join APC Ahead of Contest Against Jonathan
If latest development in the political circles is anything to go by, the Speaker of the House of Representative, Honourable Aminu Tambuwal may just be set to take the country by surprise the way he did when he emerged as the speaker of the House in 2011.
A new political power bloc is reportedly building up amongst independent minded men in the House of Representatives who are pushing the speaker to challenge President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 general election under the newly formed opposition All Progressives’ Congress, APC.
According to reports, serious meetings and calculations are going on right in Abuja and Lagos with a view to ensure that the current President, Goodluck Jonathan, do not spend one day extra in Aso Rock as soon as his tenure expires in 2015 and it seems they are already making progress.
From the calculation, the new merger party, All Progressives Congress (APC), who sources said have agreed that their candidate should come from the North in 2015, may throw its weight behind speaker Tambuwal given the importance of the House of Reps in the polity.
The speaker is said to have been contacted and discussions on going with strong indications that once all other issues are resolved, the leadership of the House of Reps will decamp to the new APC with at least 75% of the total members of the House.
A source at the National Assembly confirms the development regarding the speaker saying. “He is on board in the discussions already”.
Tambuwal, who enjoys a rosy relationship with Chairman of Governors Forum, Rotimi Amaechi, is said to be in touch with some top governors in the PDP who are also ready to decamp to the APC as soon as they confirm that Jonathan will contest in 2015.
