2015 Presidency: North will negotiate properly – Governor Aliyu
Chairman of Northern states Governors’ Forum NGSF and Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu has said that as the politics towards 2015 is gathering momentum the north would negotiate properly with whoever want to be president.
Aliyu, who spoke in Edati local government area of the state while commissioning some project, also stated that the people should not listen to politicians in Abuja who would want to distort the state Zoning arrangements of political offices.
He said, “Some people, very few of them are holding nocturnal meetings, that they are telling Jonathan that they are the only supporters of Jonathan. In our own case, we are supporters of constitution of Nigeria. Whoever got this power we are in support of him.
“But what we are saying this time around in 2015 is we will negotiate, we will follow whoever gets this power, and we will support whoever gets this power. But we will ask for fulfilment of promises and redemption for the work that we insist for our people, that is all we are saying.”
The outspoken Governor stated that the negotiation has become imperative in view of the need the safeguard the interest of the north even as he urged the people to always asked elected leaders to deliver on their campaign promises
Aliyu, who commissioned workers Village constructed at N215 million by Edati local government council, said that the North was ready and prepared to follow whoever is duly elected in 2015 as president.
He stated that where ever the next president comes from, either north or anywhere in the country, what he is after is a leader that will make people to feel the impact of leadership.
Aliyu said that the state would continue to maintain its present zoning arrangements and would no tolerate introduction of tribal and religious sentiment into the polity, “here in Niger, we do not play the politic of religion as such attitude would negate the development drive of the state and the country at large” he added.
Meanwhile, Aliyu has stated that he does not hold unto the funds of local government councils as exemplified by Edati local government council saying that “Edati Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Isah Kantigi, has proved right by the projects executed today.
Kantigi said he had slashed the council over head by 50 per cent to enable the council funds the N260 million projects, which included offices for federal staff deployed to the area, magistrate court and 15 kilometres road project.
