PDP May Lose in 2015 If Cracks in the Party Are Not Mended – Bamangu Tukur
National Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur has warned that the party may lose the 2015 elections to opposition political parties if current cracks and bickering within its fold across the country are not urgently mended.
Tukur who issued the warning today while inaugurating a Chief Graham Douglas led eight –man committee to reconcile feuding members of the party in Kano State, also raised the alarm that the development has already made valuable members of the party jump ship to opposition parties. He cited an eye opener of what to expect in 2015 the recent governorship election in Edo state where the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN trashed PDP at the polls. He attributed this to divisions within the party in the state.
According to him: ‘’it is necessary to reconcile individual members of the party and factions, for us to have a united party, and reduce disagreement. Not
only in Kano, in every state in the country, you find people who felt aggrieved and left our party. So, reconciliation is paramount and that’s why we want to use elders, who will look at issues, dispassionately. We want to continue winning and we can only do that, if we build understanding. We have set up this committee to talk to our people and identify causes of the crises.’’
In his response, Douglas thanked the party’s National Working Committee for the confidence reposed in him and other members of his committee and assured that his team will discharge the responsibility conscientiously. ‘’You have chosen men of integrity and honour. I assure you that we shall deliver on the assignment given to us conscientiously, to the best of our ability’’, he added.
