After an eventful 120 minutes shared between Brazil and Chile which ended 1-1 apiece at full time, the penalty shootout was even more eventful than all the 120 minutes combined together.
The penalty shootout saw David Luiz give Brazil a one goal lead. Chile lost their chance, while Willian lost Brazilian chance. Julio Caesar saved the second Chilean effort. Marcelo converted Brazilian chance giving Brazil a 2-0 lead. Aranguez made the Chilean third effort worthwhile with 2-1. Hulk was denied Brazil’s fourth chance. Marcelo Diaz netted Chile’s fourth, leveling it at 2-2. Neymar handled his and Brazil’s fifth, chance perfectly putting all the pressure on Chile. Chile’s fifth and last shot hit the bar sending the Chilean side home.
With this development, Brazil scaled through to quarterfinal while Chile got all but set to return home. What a match!
