20 Governors Shun Jonah Jangs NGF Meeting
No fewer than 20 governors from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the opposition parties merging to form the All Progressives Congress Monday Shunned the Nigerian Governors Forum meeting called by Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau.
Gov. Jang who is leading a faction of the Nigerian Governors Forum mainly consisting of Governors loyal to President Goodluck Jonathan had convened the Monday evening meeting of the forum despite the warning from Governor Rotimi Amaechi of River State who is believed to be the authentically elected Chairman of the Governors’ forum after an election in April.
Jang said the meeting is to discuss crucial national issues including revenue sharing between the federal and state governments.
But the governors who are opposed to his leadership shunned the meeting choosing to recognize Rotimi Amaechi as the authentic Chairman of the Forum.
Aside all the 11 governors who are members of the newly formed All Progressives Congress that shunned the meeting, Governors Sule Lamido of Jigawa, Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto, Babangida Aliyu of Niger, Murtala Nyako of Adamawa, and Seidu Dakingari of Kebbi all belonging to the PDP shunned the meeting.
The meeting only had 16 governors in attendance, 6 of whom were represented by their Deputies.
