16 Months Suspension: Jibrin Ask Nigerians To Help His Constituents Get Back To House
Suspended member of the House of representatives representing Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency in Kano state has asked Nigerians to help his constituents whom he represents get back to the House following his suspension 16 months ago.
The Kano state born lawmaker in a tweet on his twitter account asked Nigerians to retweet the thread with he had hitherto made until it gets to the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari and the Chief Justice of the federation, Walter, Onnoghen “for their urgent intervention.”
The tweet thread was in response to claims by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara that President Buhari tackled the suspended rep member on budget padding allegations he raised against him as the speaker.
The speaker made the claim in his biography, ‘A Reed Made Flint’, authored by Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation.
“As a principled and experienced leader that the president is, he sought to know where the other leaders of NASS were when the budget was padded by just four leaders of the house,” Dogara said.
“None of our traducers could answer the question. Since he does not suffer fools gladly, he told them that except they answer the question nobody should bring up the subject matter to him again.”
In his reaction, Jibrin said he wrote three letters to the president but did not get a response.
He said when he noticed a “barricade organised by Dogara around the president against me, I took my destiny in my own hands, continued the struggle and never made any attempt to see the president again”.
“I wish to state categorically clear and without any iota of doubt that since I left as Chairman Appropriation after raising budget padding allegations and was later illegally and unconstitutionally suspended, I have NEVER set my eyes on President Buhari. Neither have I ever at any point in time discussed the matter with the President. I wrote three letters seeking audience with the President to discuss the matter but I neither got any acknowledgement nor response. I doubt if he has even seen the letters. .Thereafter, when I noticed there was a barricade organized by Dogara around the President against me, I took my destiny in my own hands, continued the struggle and never made any attempt to see the President again.”
“Let me also state that there was never a time during this period that any security agent or agency ferried me to the President talk less of the President warning that the matter should never be brought before him. It is such a shame that in a desperate bid to score a cheap point, Mr Speaker has descended so low not to only propagate falsehood against me but on our President who is known for his integrity and forthrightness. Please leave Mr President out of this matter.”
“I believe that in view of the gravity of this matter, the media and all well-meaning Nigerians have a responsibility to ask the President to confirm if this event ever occurred between me and him. It is Dogara’s last resort to incite the President and presidency against me after all the attempts to witch-hunt me have failed.”
While calling on the president to intervene and get the Chief Justice of the Federation to speeedy the dispensation of justice, Jibrin said his constituents have been illegally and unconstitutionally suspended from the House indefinitely having served a 180 days suspension.
“Mr President, the people you see me with here are people of my constituency Kiru/Bebeji Kano. They are your people. They have been illegally and unconstitutionally suspended from the House indefinitely having served a 180 days suspension. We have brought our case before you sir,” he said while attaching picture of himself and his constituents observing prayer in a mosque.
“We make this request knowing well your administration position and support for speedy dispensation of justice especially on corruption cases and matters of national importance. The suspension of my constituency for 15month is indeed a matter of urgent national importance”
