You Have 14 Days To Arrest Perpetrators of Benue Killings, Senate Tells IGP
The Senate, has on Tuesday, ordered the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to within 14 days, arrest the perpetrators of the recent killings in Logo and Guma Local Government Areas of Benue State and hand them over to the attorney general of the state for prosecution.
The Senate, at the resumption of Plenary in Abuja, further noted that the failure to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators, who it said include “well trained foreign mercenary elements”, will threaten Nigeria’s unity as the crisis was deepening the country’s ethno-religious fault lines.
Senate President Bukola Saraki said the resolutions of the senators on the killings would be transmitted to the executive to consider for immediate action.
“One of the points being made is that there must be justice and that is contained in our resolution that the IG must, in the next 14 days, apprehend the killers.
“We have condemned the killings, but more importantly, action must be taken to reassure Nigerians that we are not just talking,” Saraki said.
