El-Rufai Declines Invitation from SSS Over Comment on 2015 Election
Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and Deputy National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Malam Nasir El-rufai has declined the invitation by the State Security Service (SSS) asking him to appear at its headquarters in Abuja.
The SSS had on Thursday invited the former FCT Minister to clarify the statement, where he was quoted to have said, “The next election is likely to be violent and many people are likely going to die. And the only alternative left to get power is to take it by force, this is the reality on the ground.”
He had warned that the 2015 general elections would be marred by riots and other forms of violence that might lead to loss of lives and property except the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies were ready to hold free and fair elections.
But El-Rufai in his reaction through his twitter page declined the invitation, stating that a warrant of a High Court as required by law would be required before he will appear at the SSS office.
“When Jonathanians threaten us, the SLS is silent. When opposition figures state facts, they are invited. I have declined the invitation,” El-Rufai tweeted.
He added that “If the SSS wishes to see me in their office, they should obtain a warrant of a High Court as required by law, and arrest me stating charges!”
Continuing, he said Nigerians will not accept rigging in 2015. The reactions of the South-West in 1964, 1983, 1993 and the North in 2011 are enough for us all!
Some persons have criticized the invitation by the SSS describing it as a deliberate wit hunt especially considering that some other persons especially those perceived to be close to President Jonathan has made provocative statement without getting invitation from the SSS.
