How Boko Haram Killed Over 20 FCE Kano Students…50 Others Injured
No fewer than 20 students of the Federal College of Education, Kano were today killed and over 50 others wounded in a gun and bomb attack on the students in their lecture room. Though the State Police Commissioner, Adenrele Shinaba confirmed the death of 17 persons, survivors and members of staff in the school said the casualty figure was more than what the police chief disclosed.
The police boss who claimed that two of the insurgents were among the 17 killed in the attack admitted that over 34 persons injured have been evacuated to the Murtala Mohammed Hospital in the metropolis for medical attention while the deceased have been deposited in the morgue. He added that an AK 47 rifle and a magazine belonging to the insurgents were recovered from the scene of the attack.
It was learnt that a team of policemen had engaged the gunmen in a gun duel along the Federal College of Education road when suddenly some of them veered into the premises of the College shooting sporadically in their bid to escape. Two of the gunmen were shot in the process while one of them was actually shot while attempting to scale the fence of the college, leaving behind his AK 47 rifle and an explosive.
Some of the fleeing gunmen were said to have been dressed in suit while they ran towards the lecture area called the Twin- theatre where they shot students and detonated a bomb that injured a lot of others with blood and human flesh scattered all over the area.
Soon after the pandemonium, the college premises were cordoned off by members of the Joint Security Task Force in the state. The latest attack is coming on the heels of a similar one a few months ago when a Polytechnic in the state was attacked with explosives by suspected members of the Boko Haram sect.
